Ebay as an alternative?
Posted: Sep 11, 2015
I just typed a report where the patient significantly reduced her stress by quitting her job and selling stuff on Ebay. I know I read somewhere on here something about this but I don't remember if it said what people sell. I tried selling my own art that I created on Ebay and Etsy and I made about $40 a month for a couple of months and that is before the fees etc. Mostly I made nothing. I sure envy the artists on both of those sites that make decent livings. I added up the past items sold by looking at reviews for the most popular artists and some of them are making somewhere around $80,000 a year. I would settle for $8,000 a year as that is still more than I make doing this. Anybody want to share what kinds of items they sell? I know, probably not for obvious reasons. Chalkboard art seemed to be extremely popular on Etsy quite awhile ago, haven't checked lately but there seems to be mass quantities of that everywhere anymore even replications made into wall hangings in places like Hobby Lobby and Joann now. I wonder if the top artists doing that on Etsy are still making as much now. I wish the lady in the report I typed mentioned what she sold! Probably something other than art. ;

People sell everything on Ebay. Anything you would put in a garage sale can be listed on Ebay. Old books laying around? List them on Ebay. Really the sky is the limit - you never know what somebody else is going to want to buy.
I think I remember that post... - anon

and I asked the OP what they sell. They said they go to garage sales and auctions and buy stuff to resell. I have sold my own stuff, mostly collectibles, that I no longer wanted. I used the profits for things I wanted to buy for my house like shades and furniture. The only trouble I've had is selling a couple of electronic things where I felt like the buyers were scamming me saying they didn't get the item or it was damaged. I would recommend you buy extra insurance and signature guarantee when shipping anything of value over $50.

estate sales. There are people who live near factories and sell factory seconds (Godiva chocolates, for example). There is a site called liquidators.com where you can bid on lots which you can then sell separately. I have a friend who crochets. I sent him a site from Yahoo where a woman had crocheted dinosaurs and monsters and had made a fortune on them. People on the East Coast buy up lots of unsold clothes. I know I've bought from people who have shop lifted and probably robbed trucks. Spend a few hours looking around eBay and get some ideas. Nothing's the limit (except human organs).
I do not want to be an accessory to a crime - and buying known stolen items

certainly would put a person in that category. Never would I knowingly accept, buy, obtain anything stolen.
Truly does not matter what you sell - eBay Seller

Hi. I'd posted a long reply about this, but it looks like it was lost in the thread's transfer over from the main board.
Stuff sells on eBay if the price is right, so it really doesn't matter what you sell. What DOES matter is you getting the stuff listed. It's a production job, just like MT. If you are attempting to sell stuff you don't like dealing with or don't know anything about, you are going to dread the work and you aren't going to list. If it's something you know and love to handle (crafts? dolls? clothes? tea cups?), you won't mind so much.
It's a lot of hard work, with a ramping up period and a learning curve, but it will for sure help you to make ends meet. I sell between $500 and $850 a month, less in the summer, more in the winter, and also work full-time job at a hospital.

Update On How EBay Is Going For Me!Jun 05, 2014Hi everyone. I haven't been back to MTStars in many months. I see so many who are depressed and broke (and understandably so).
Back last year, I wrote several posts about how I had started selling on eBay. I got the idea from here, the Gab board, after seeing a woman post that she sold $800 on eBay in her first month. EBay is continuing for me, and now I've added selling books on Amazon too. After a lot of trying different things and making a lot of mista ...
My Brother To The (eBay) RescueApr 18, 2014Sell stuff on eBay! Etsy! Amazon.com! Wave of future! Etc etc etc....
I signed up with eBay (again), start getting those emails about how easy it is to sell stuff, so EASY to upload pics, write description, discount, etc...OVERwhelming.
So my brother comes over, sees the stuff I'm making, and says nonchalantly, "I bet I could sell that on eBay." (He sells stuff on Amazon AND eBay). And I was like, "oh you could, could you?" So he had his camera, t ...
Update On My EBay SalesAug 05, 2015Hello. It's been at least a year since I wrote several posts regarding making extra money by selling on eBay. I haven't been back here in so long, and yet I still see many struggling.
When I first started selling, my initial goal was to at least be able to pay my utilities with my eBay money. Then it became paying my rent.
My rent is $845. For the month of July (which is the S-L-O-W time on eBay), I had gross sales of $843. Now, eBay and PayPal took their 13.5% cut (combined ...
Advice On How To Start Selling On EBay?Jul 10, 2013I've bought things off eBay for years and now I'd like to start selling, but whenI've started the Sellers Tutorial on eBay there seem to be so many things to know regarding getting payment, how to list, taking good pics, etc. that I feel overwhelmed. Can anybody de-mystify the procedure for me? ...
EBay Refuses Auction For Accused Killer Of Abortion DoctorOct 29, 2009Online auction house eBay has blocked an auction that would have raised funds for Scott Roeder, the man accused of killing abortion doctor George Tiller in Wichita, Kansas, earlier this year.
According to a report at the Kansas City Star, Iowa anti-abortion activist Dave Leach had been organizing the auction, which would have sold off items such as a manual that instructs, among other things, on how to bomb abortion clinics, as well as a prison cookbook written by a person jailed for abortion c ...
Alternative.Dec 19, 2012Horrible to lose such lovely children with so much yet to offer.
If you had to go on a rampage and kill people, go to an old folks' home. As I get closer to being in one, I think I'd probably appreciate an early end. Also, they are certainly easier to catch (just being morbid).
Seriously, BAN ALL PERSONAL GUNS. Nobody really needs to kill anything unless they're going to eat it. ...
Alternative Minimum TaxMar 15, 2017Trump and the Pubs want to get rid of the alternative minimum tax. Based on what is known about Trump's finances now that those 2 pages have been revealed, he would have paid a tax rate of 3 1/2% without the alternative minimum tax. This would probably be true for the other millionaires and billionaires as well. What do you think that would do to the federal budget and the national debt? ...
Possible Alternative Answer To Food Stamp FraudMay 17, 2015Well, unable to get to church due to a knee joint flare (not mine) and playing nurse, I noticed others were asking below for alternative solutions to food stamp fraud other than Scott Walker's expensive and absurd plan to overhaul the EBT system to restrict types of food and drug test recipients. So how about this?
Ask the food stamp recipients to turn in their monthly grocery receipts to their caseworker for review. Give them 3 strikes or they're out.
Not only does ...
Amid Clinton Controversies, Democrats Yearn For An AlternativeMar 05, 2015The full article is at the link, but one paragraph that stood out to me:
“The problem is, there’s nobody out there who’s not Clinton who’s the equivalent of Barack Obama,” said Larry Drake, chairman of the Portsmouth Democrats in New Hampshire. “He was a fresh face . . . and he gave great speeches and he turned out to be electable.”
This is a GOOD thing. We don't want another Barack Obama. We need someone who can dig ...
