Another thing that is just as important is staying out of - debt and owning land/home, etc

and living off your land as much as possible. Grow your own veggies, be frugal, don't buy expensive iPhones or TVs, cut the cable, things like that.

I've been debt free for going on 5 years and yes, I'm an MT (took early retirement). I put 2 kids through college by myself. My husband died of sudden death on Dec. 31, 1999, so my younger daughter did get survivor's benefits until she turned 18.

If you are willing to live like an extreme cheapskate, you can save money.
