I have been an IC for 20+ years and have a retirement plan -- it's called an IRA. I started this myself and put every penny I can in it. I am my own employer and took care of myself by working as much as I could or needed to, living below my means, and not expecting anyone to cover for me. I have never been of the mindset that anyone should take care of me but me, and I'm very thankful for that. And I know others who are like me, MTs and other professions, who have done the same thing. You're right about one thing though: I cannot know everyone's story and neither can you.
