You say that this woman is very religious. If so, she is very familiar with the Bible in which suffering is mentioned many, many times throughout. Below is a very good explanation to try for her, as I think she will understand. Try it and see, and God bless you for the compassion and love you show through your hospice visits and to those in nursing homes. You do not have to be religious, as you put it, to show others by your actions the love of Jesus to all with whom you visit. I know many so called "religious" people who talk the talk but never walk the walk. You are most definitely walking the walk and believe me, God loves you for what you do for others. Perhaps sharing with her what I posted below will give her the peace she needs now. Again, God bless you for the kindness, compassion and love you offer to others every day!

Considering all the evil in the world, does God really care about us? Not only does He care, but He cares enough to have sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer and die for us. Because of God’s great love and sacrifice, we now have a way to be reconciled with Him through Christ. This does not mean that we will no longer suffer in this world, but it does mean that we will spend eternity with God. There will come a day when God “will wipe every tear from” our eyes and, “There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things” will pass away (Revelation 21:4).
