The US has always been "energy independent in power - generation and industrial fuels. Posted: May 10th, 2018 - 3:01 am In Reply to: We never have been energy independent. Do - you think the oil we drill
It has imported petroleum and its distillates extensively since the 1970’s when domestic production fell below consumption, and that's all the term has meant ever since (inasmuch as politicians use the term).
We consume almost 20 million barrels per day and we produce just over 12. It’s on the EIA website.
But we haven't been able to build refineries because of the green movement. And with all the "immigrants" coming in now we need even more.
Trump's energy dominance is part of his domestic policy. Obama's regulations stopped a lot of energy production.
It made sense that some onshore markets in this country may find it cheaper to buy foreign oil instead of shipping US oil to their location and running up higher shipping costs. Venezuela had America oil companies until Hugo Chavez nationalists them and kicked America out. Maybe now we can help flood the market with their own oil. Next Iran.
We need to build new refineries.
We are all for alternatives forms of energy. But solar panels are going to work here in Alaska.
