Anyone see that new TLC show Extreme Couponing?

Posted: Jan 5, 2011

I only saw one episode and am addicted. It's insane! For those of you who have not seen it, this show follows 4 people who are considered extreme couponers.  These people spend hours and hours finding and cutting out coupons to save money. It shows how many items they bought, what they bought, what their original bill would be, and how much they actually paid after their coupons. They have a system down, very organized almost to the point of OCD. They showed their stacks upon stacks of items they bought over the years, almost like a cold war shelter or something. At first, I thought it was nuts, but now I wanna do it too. It's amazing to watch this show. This one lady spent a few hours at the grocery store and numerous carts finding all of her items to go along with the coupons. Her original bill was $1175 something and she only paid $51 something! No joke! Just thought I'd start a thread on this new show and pass along the info to the rest of you out there in MT land that are struggling financially to make it. If we all spent a little time on couponing, think how much money we could save. I would personally make the 3-hour trip to buy 200 tubes of toothpaste and set me up for life. :-)

If you live in the south, there is a website called SouthernSavers.com that is helpful. A lot of the stores are not in South Mississippi, but I still get a lot of helpful money saving stuff from there.

For awhile I used The Grocery Game. Now I use a site called Pocket Your Dollars. It matches up local store's sales flyer to the coupons from the Sunday papers. When I get the Sunday paper, I take out the coupon packets and write the date on the front, keep them all in a box. Then I use Pocket Your Dollars which will match up the sales with the coupon, tell you the date and which one it was in (Red Plum, etc.) Then I go on double coupon day and have gone through with 2 carts before (in order to use more than the 5 doubled coupon limit). When I actually take the time to do it, I save an unbelievable amount of money and can really stock up, which helps for when those lines are down or work is low.

Thanks for the tip... - Kendra

between the three sites, I am sure that I can do well. Watch out--500 sticks of deodorant, here I come! Just kidding, of course!

Thanks for the tips. I live in WI so have different stores too. nm - SassyPants

I'm also in Wisconsin (near Madison) and Pocket Your Dollars covers Pick n Save, Copps, Hyvee, Cub, and probably some others I'm not remembering, as well as Walmart and Walgreens. Check it out!

people. One guy had like 250 things of deodorant, one lady had like 2000 rolls of toilet paper. One man said he had insured the contents in his garage where he kept his stuff at $60,000. It was unreal.

Wow - that sounds borderline OCD, to me! - Deodorant hoarders! LOL -nm-

If they spend that much time pursuing coupons & - shopping, where do they get the money?

Do they have jobs?

If I could save that much on groceries - rambling on

I probably wouldn't have to work. The majority of my paycheck goes for groceries and gas to get to my other job.

We could survive on what my husband makes if I could cut down on my grocery spending. Hmmmmm... I might have to look into this extreme couponing thing!

I used to do couponing (not extreme) back in the '70s and '80s when I wasn't working. There used to be a lot of coupon newsletters published and mailed once a month with the best deals and people looking to trade coupons.
I traded coupons from all over the country and it was fun to get those packets in the mail.

My proudest moment was when I bought $300 of groceries for $1.50. BTW, I never bought groceries just for the sake of a coupon...used only coupons for products I used every day.

Now, it's a bit harder because the coupons don't give you freebies very often and I noted this week's flyers where you have to buy 2 items for $.30 off (only 1 store in this area gives double coupons and only on a certain day). Big deal. Plus the coupon is only good for a month at the most. Sales on that coupon item are usually the day AFTER the coupon expired.

I still save around $20-$30 on a $100 grocery bill, but I'm not into it like before. Oh, and those online coupons are not accepted at most of the stores in my area either. That's a crock. They call them "counterfit" coupons.

I watched some of it. I just wondered what in - the world they were going

to do with all of those candy bars. I hope not eat them all. I just wonder how much of the stuff bought spoils. Maybe they donate some of it or something like that. No one should intake that much pasta in a year or that many candy bars in a lifetime, and how much ketchup can you really use?

I do use the Southernsavers website. I have been doing pretty decent and try to pick up some pretty good deals, but I am not going to that extreme. I think that woman seriously has an illness. Just because something is free does not mean you need it.

I Just Caught The First Episode Of Extreme Couponing, May 19, 2011
at least I think it's the first episode, on On Demand, since the show is on too late at night for me. Anyway, I think there's something wrong with those women.  OCD maybe? They're so proud of having 40 boxes of cereal and 90 rolls of toilet paper. What they don't say is how much of that cereal and TP they go through before they buy more....and that one woman who took her husband with her and wound up with 4 carts of groceries....I didn't see a single piece of m ...

Did Anyone Catch The Beck Show? Not His Usual ShowNov 13, 2009
If anyone didn't catch it, I'd encourage you to watch it this weekend.  It wasn't his usual show that everyone hates.  He had an audience (not sure if there were any white people, mostly African-American) and they were talking about issues and problems.  Most of them voted for Obama and they discussed issues going on.  It was very interesting. One guy showed Obama where he grew up in the Harlam and what it was like for him growing up.  It was just a very g ...

Extreme Fatigue (worse Than Normal) Any Ideas?Mar 05, 2013
I know it is the most common complaint doctors hear - and for years I have had the stressed-tired-overworked fatigue - I know how that one feels.  But this has been going on a couple of months.  I am bone tired even after I sleep a lot.  My blood work showed I am hypothyroid so I started on medicine and also some supplements for that.  But nothing seems to be helping.  I have pain/fatigue across the area of my back right at the braline.  My arms and neck feel heavy. ...

Extreme Weather At All Time Lows As Climax Hoax Apr 29, 2017
The Church of Global Warming has many followers and, because it’s a cult-like religious belief to them, no amount of hard data will ever convince them they adhere to the teachings of a false god. Nevertheless, it is incumbent upon the non-establishment, honest alternative media to report what is and what isn’t: And what isn’t is the supposed increase in “extreme weather” due to “global warming/climate change” caused by humans. Climate Depot points this out in a new report tha ...

Not only was he dying from the disease, he was crushed by the financial disaster his illness caused. What I was so struck by was the closing statement:  And remember this show w ...

Tickets To A ShowNov 16, 2009
OK, here is the deal.... I have a 20 y/o and a 13 y/o and the holidays are soon approaching.  I always get a family gift we can all enjoy; last year it was the Wii.  This year I thought it would be fun to get tickets to see a family show and Disney on Ice is way too young for my kids and some shows are over my 13 year old's head... so I am thinking Blue Man Group or Stomp.  Of course I live in a little podunk town in Iowa so my destigntions are limited... mainly to Omaha ...

Has anyone seen that show (Hoarders)?  It's one one of the DirecTV channels - Discovery or The Learning Channel or something like that.  Now, I admit that DH is a packrat and without me around, it would be a tad cluttered around here.  When he accumulates too much crap, I box it up, label it and put it in the attic.  If he doesn't miss it for several years, it goes in the garbage.  I thought we had a clutter problem.  Wrong.  They go into these peopl ...
