where is the leadership?

Posted: Oct 2, 2013

You can blame republicans or you can blame democrats or anyone you want but here is a very basic fact.  The president is supposed to be a LEADER.  That means his job is to LEAD with a steady hand, guide the congess to resolution and quell the turmoil.  This president is not providing leadership.   I say the blame starts at the top and flows from there.  One does not lead by simply saying "i will not negotiate" and walking away.  This president in failing in his most critical role, that of being a LEADER.  One cannot expect anyone else to compromise when their leadership will not even talk.  Compromise means BOTH sides coming together, not one side or the other being forced to "give in."  This is political posturing at its worst.  It is designed for them to show how bad a** they are for the benefit of the public. Take their faces off TV, lock them in a room, and don't let them have any public exposure until they have reached a working compromise.  Hold their paychecks like they are doing to 100s of 1000s of working people and see how they work.  This morning I saw a poll on CNN saying this congress (the whole of congress, not one party or the other) had a lower approval rating then brussels sprouts, head lice, root canals, Nixon during Watergate, and colonoscopies!  Doesn't that tell them something -all of them?

The leadership - is in the White House

He is telling Congress what they need to do without the tantrums. What is there to talk about? ACA has been already passed and has nothing to do with passing the budget. He is standing his ground and not letting the children get away with throwing tantrums to get their way. What else would you have him do? Maybe he should make them go out and get a switch, and it better be a good one.

He doesn't get to "tell them what to do." She is saying his job is to lead them, not boss them around. He's supposed to be a leader, not a dictator. He is supposed to work with both sides, not just his own. He isn't supposed to shut out the other side completely. and what I would have him do is engage in some debate and do some of that compromising he is always saying everyone should do. Guess that only means everyone else and not him? perhaps someone should explain that compromise means both sides give a little. And ACA has passed but that doesn't mean it can't be amended. You would applaud him for standing his ground but vilify the republicans who are standing theirs. Double standard anyone?

The - point

[ In Reply To ..]
is that ACA has nothing to do with signing the budget and paying bills. Leading sometimes means saying no. It does not mean let everybody do what they want. He has compromised and is willing to discuss things, but not in order to pay our bills. It's not a double standard, it's leading. Do you get your way with your boss all the time? Do you threaten not to do your job if you don't get your way? Yes, I do applaud him for standing his ground and do vilify the pubs for holding the budget hostage.

he has compromised? and is willing to discuss things? I watched him stand and say "I will not negotiate" and "nothing is open for debate." Hmm, not like any compromise I have ever been involved. and I watched him hand out blame and divide this country even further rather than work with anyone to promote unity, which is his responsibility. THAT would be leadership. His actions are bullying and dictating. And the analogy to my boss is apples to oranges. My boss can hire and fire. He has the power to "control" the actions of the employees. The president cannot do that to Congress. THE PRESIDENT IS NOT THEIR BOSS. HE DOES NOT GET TO MAKE UNILATERAL DECISIONS OR TELL CONGRESS WHAT TO DO. THEIR BOSSES ARE THEIR CONSTITUENTS, AND MANY AMERICANS HAVE EXPRESSED TO THEIR REPRESENTATIVES THAT THEY DO NOT WANT OBAMACARE IN ITS PRESENT FORM.
What's with all the screaming? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Making all that noise isn't going to make white turn black. Wrong is wrong. Compromise on the CR numbers is a matter of record. Democrats accepted the GOP proposal despite strong misgivings and deep disagreements. They did so at their own political peril, considering their own left wing is livid about the lunacy of prolonged sequester. Beyond that, there is nothing else to talk about as long as shutdown is ongoing. Therefore, President Obama is not talking. He's just waiting for the arsonists to come to their senses.
That's not screaming, that's emphasis - as we've been told here (nm)

How did you like seeing your republican party grand standing, patting each other on the back, drinking, celebrating the shut down of the government (Huffington post). You can see these arrogant fools do not care about American nor the hard-working American people.

We have not had a leader since JFK. - Mrs. Tingles

[ In Reply To ..]
We have nobody in politics now that is a leader.

This is what happens when you put someone in the position that has no experience anywhere close to what is needed. He was a community organizer. That is no where near what the position needs. We need a strong leader who will be able to pull the country out of the dark hole/pit he is putting us in.

He doesn't know how to lead and he doesn't know how to work with all sides. He has shown that he wants things his way and nobody is suppose to say anything. Even when the decisions are wrong he comes back with the arrogant don't question me, I'll do whatever I want, ignoring totally that he does not have the authority to just do what he wants.

He has divided the country so badly that people are fighting for no good reason. People have said this is how the civil war started.

But he doesn't want to compromise and he won't even sit down and listen to anything republicans have to say. He has closed door meetings without republicans who need to be in the meetings.

It's truly a shame. So many people had hopes for him, but he disappointed so many, even in his own party. It's at a point where I'm not even sure the damage will be able to be reversed to get this country back to being a great country. Thanks to him and others in congress nobody trusts or likes us.

When President Obama was elected, I said a prayer for him and for our country. I believed, as you said, that he did not have the experience necessary to be our president. He had charisma, but he hadn't had an opportunity to prove that he was a leader. It is now very apparent that he lacks leadership qualities.
There is some truth to his being called Campaigner in Chief, because that is the part of being president that he is best at. Congressmen on both sides of the aisle say that they have never had a conversation with him in the 5 years he has been in the white house. Presidents before him have played golf too - but they played golf with members of congress - or they went horseback riding together - or they were invited home to Texas or to Camp David.
As a side note to something else said, isn't the president supposed to come up with a budget that is then approved by congress? I believe that the president, and both sides of congress can come up with budgets and then they have to be approved by all. The House has come up with budgets, but the senate and the president have not approved them. Again, no sit down to work out the details.

not passed them because they come with attachments. Give them a budget and only a budget and see what happens.
It seems to me that everything comes - with attachments
[ In Reply To ..]
including OC. Nothing these days is put before the congress without attachments in it. That is where the lobbying for all the special interest privileges comes in. Discontinue that practice altogether, and you may get somewhere. Stop the practice of "attachments" in everything, not just the budget. That includes ALL bills, laws, rules, and regulations, INCLUDING Obamacare. Just because it is a so-called "law" now, does not mean that it cannot be taken back or changed in the near future. This whole so-called government needs a complete overhaul and if it means civil war to take back what the PEOPLE want and deserve, so be it.
Nothing is going to get taken back or amended - during a government shutdown
[ In Reply To ..]
Nor is it going to be subject to debate by force or threat. Until the TP gets that through their thick skulls, nothing else is going to happen. It is THEIR turn (and Boehner's) to step up, take their defeat like adults, and do the right thing for the country.

Pass the budget. Pay the bills.
I never said "during a shutdown" - reading comprehension skills lacking
[ In Reply To ..]
what I said was "IN THE NEAR FUTURE." some of you people just read and comprehend what you think you want to read and comprehend and start a fight over every little detail. gees peets.
Time for a reality check. For starters, it's not a - "so-called" law,
[ In Reply To ..]
it is the law. Second, it's not a "so-called" government, it is the government, elected by a clean and fair election by a clear majority. Third, a democrat lives in the White House. The nameplate sitting on top of the Oval Office desk identifies President Obama as the occupant. The democrats control the executive branch of the government. They also control the Senate. Any upchuck coming from TP saboteurs in the House of insurrection has to pass muster with the Senate and be signed by the executive.

It is sheer lunacy to think for a minute that democrats or the president are going to consent to the destruction of their signature legislation. So if by near future, you mean 2016, then you MIGHT have a chance to strip millions of Americans of their medical insurance. But first the GOP has to win the majority in the election. That's just the way it is, so "in the near future" is not in our nation's future anytime soon.

You hit the nail on the head. Of course, one big reason the pubs are so desperate to try to force the issue now is that in 2016, even if they should win the election, they know that taking away affordable and comprehensive insurance from individuals who have enjoyed it for nearly 3 years will produce a very angry and negative backlash from their constituents who have relied on it. Kind of like passing Social Security and then 3 years later taking it away.

"clear and fair election" which you know in your heart and your head is not true. The so-called "election" was fixed, the passing of OC was fixed and I will not even call it a law because it was railroaded through just like the so-called election was. I don't care if his skinny behind is sitting in the president's chair... just because he is sitting in the oval office's chair does not a president make! When he starts acting like a president instead of a spoiled child who can only get what he wants by making demands and not being willing to negotiate or compromise, and getting his hands out of the pockets of the middle class to support the wealthy, and not offering "entitlements" in exchange for votes, when he brings this country back to what it once was and still should be... when HE gets the spending under control and stops sending our jobs overseas, when he starts making more jobs so the people can live a reasonable life again...MAYBE, just MAYBE I will recognize him as a president. Until then, he is just another corrupt politician out to steal everything he can from everybody he can, pay off his special interest groups (insurance companies and pharmaceuticals), just so he can sit his skinny behind in that office and feel like he accomplished something in life. To me he is just a controlling you know what. He does not deserve the title because he has not earned it!

I agree with you there when referring to George W. Bush. I never referred to him as president either. Talk about a fixed political race. Look at the Florida election race in 2000. There was also rich man, I forget his name, featured on HP and other political columns who admitted to helping GWB win and admitted knowing his tactics were illegal but who cares, he got him in office anyway. GWB raised the debt ceiling to an all-time high with the war he got us into based on lies. Talk about a spoiled child who only wants to get what he wants!

He has to be the worse president I have ever seen or heard. What about Benghazi and Syria? If I did not know any better, are you sure he is not a hitman or works for the Mafia? I mean look who he used to hang around with and what about the movie 2016? Yikes! He has to have it his way or else. I cannot wait when he is done in office. He will not know what to do with himself.
