I am not the OP, but I would like to say that I find it very interesting that certain posts are labelled with the terms "YOUR RACE BAITING" in what seems in my view to be an attempt to censor discussion or admonish another poster.

I'm really not taking sides here. I'm merely pointing out the utter hypocrisy. If this post is "race baiting" then so are all the others.

This is America where we supposedly value our freedoms. If we really value freedom of speech, then why would we want to censor others we don't agree with? I may not always agree with an opinion one way or the other, but I will defend a person's right to speak their mind EVERY SINGLE TIME!

Disappointing there is no discussion of content, just whether or not it should be posted at all. I suppose that is the way Americans approach things though. They look at the surface and have an immediate reaction. Some decide to actually read and analyze, others just go with that knee-jerk reaction and "know" the entire subject matter without reading.

Oh, and don't worry, I'm an American. I know how that "foreign" poster thing would get to some. I'm sure it would be at issue if not, but I'm just as American as anyone else on this board.

That is what the opposing ideology wants you to believe. That there is no hope. It wants you to doubt. It wants you to believe the problem is you, not itself. It wants you to be as miserable as it is.

Don't be, you're too optimistic/too good of a person for that. Aren't you?:)

As a side note, yesterday I wrote a post about some things being said to get an emotional reaction, like a junkie needs a fix. What I didn't say was, if the desired effect of feathers being ruffled/emotional reaction isn't achieved, we can expect to see "junkie" behavior escalate until they do get an emotional reaction. Some people need an emotional reaction, especially from women, to get a rush.

Let them get louder and more belligerent, but whatever we do, we cannot feed the junkie;)

Focus on feeding our brains instead, the people that are reading your post and like/care what people like you have to say :)

I thought the post actually encouraged us to think about what it might be like to live in the world of another race, whatever that race might be, and that is sorely needed for all races, black viewing white, white viewing black, white viewing Latino and so on. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Good job:)

isn't like this board (exceptions obvious) I've been there and continue to live there. I have often wondered what has created this odd microcosm. Working at home? Being tortured by MTSOs and the industry decline, in general? Fear of the unknown future? Fear of change? I meet conservatives, but not so many of this close-minded type of conservative.

I know what you meant and agree real-life conservatives aren't always like this, but if you think about it, it IS the same thing in the real world at present, with race issues coming to a head, IMO - and I actually did mean both in my comment ;)

I think the only difference is this forum makes it easier for some people to say what they're really thinking and feeling than they can or would in real life.

Regardless, take the lack of hope you feel on this forum and that's exactly how African Americans have felt for a few hundred years now. If they have gone through this (and much worse) and overcome, so too can we here:)

It would take an article twice as long to discuss all of the errors, both factual and logical, in this garbage, but there's really no point.

I can understand how points, logic and facts would get lost if busy counting words instead. Sounds like the sort of coping skill a person does when they know they need to experience something, but it's so unpleasant they focus on something else instead, like dental work.

The point of the article is that it is very easy to condemn another group's behavior if you're not the target of the discrimination.

Perhaps an analogy that may help understanding would be exchange the word "white" and "black" for religious-freedom law "opposers" vs "supporters".

If the opposers of religious freedom laws are discriminating and persecuting fundamentalist Christians, condemning their behavior, what responsibility do fundamentalist Christians then carry in behaving the way they do towards others?

Answer that, and you've answered your own question.

By the way, one "whitey" perspective mentioned in the article was that "whites don't burn down their own communities."

Apparently, they must not live in Appalachia or New Jersey, then, because that's often the first thing they do when they're either mad or need to destroy evidence;)

Won't get a single piece of truth from them. One time, they and Salon claimed five richest Members of Congress were richer than 5 countries like Peru, Greece, and Hong Kong, China. They got caught and deleted that article/claim but never owned up to it.

Those sites would do anything to keep the hate going. Sorry, but no one who reads that site has an open mind. It's already made up one way and the site just pushes the hate and lies.

...when she said "try to keep an open mind", which essentially means "think about this perspective." Honestly, I don't see statistics given except regarding older civil rights history and comparing it to today's events.

I didn't know that about a previous article for Mother Jones, but if that's true, the same thing has happened to Fox more than once. Does that mean everything Fox says is a lie too?

I understand that once burned with a lie how it can turn you off to listening further, but since time was taken to read what I took mostly as an opinion, it is difficult to know how to respond to the accusation of "lie" if we don't know what you're referring to.

And once again, attacking the message-bearer rather than the message doesn't distract us in the least from the point. I believe that's been said before.

If the article is just disagreed with, that's a different story.

A quick google search demonstrates that the article is available on a number of different sites, including that of the author.

There is nothing particularly wrong about being a well educated, articulate, anti-racism activist, though I realize well researched, anti-racist ideas can be very inflammatory for some.

The point is not who publishes the piece - the point is whether the piece has validity or not. If a liberal site quoted the bible, would that somehow cast doubt on the bible and bring the bible under scrutiny?
