To all who have been bashing the ACA

Posted: Jan 21, 2014

I would refer you to the Steven Brill article in the current Time magazine.

;

How about something not so abrasive - like

[ In Reply To ..]
To all who have been discussing or talking about ACA. To those affected negatively by ACA.

Otherwise the post sounds like baiting.

Or as I've heard here before - bashing, i.e. anything you don't agree with.

Because it's only those - old and burned out

[ In Reply To ..]
who are so adamantly against it who need to see some positive results.

We know the positive results. We know about (sm) - Abby

the inordinate amount of people now on Medicaid as opposed to a good plan. We k now about the pre-existing conditions. We know about the 26 year old "children" being on their parents plans. But there could have been a better plan that didn't take away insurance (the ones that heard if you like your insurance, you can keep your insurance, period) over and over and then lost it. We know about the ones whose children - (real children) not 26 year olds, who were receiving their cancer treatments at Memorial Sloan Kettering and now can't. If the Democrats wanted to take care of the poor people, they would have been better off just giving them a check for a million each to cover their healthcare costs, than taking it away from those who have worked for it and have always worked for it. We know, we know. We hear both sides. Do you?
Exactly - THANK YOU! For bringing some sense - to the board
[ In Reply To ..]
They don't want to face the facts that this is not some great plan, one size fits all.

This poster and others don't get it. They are the type 1 people talked about below.

Thank you Abby - your input, facts and research are much appreciated.
Of course the ACA could have been better - old and burned out

and hopefully changes will be made over time to make it better but it was a step in the right direction - that of insuring the millions who were uninsured. Many of the plans that subscribers were not able to keep were substandard plans only the subscribers didn't know it because they had only used them for routine visits. The article I referenced mentions MD Anderson which is "extraordinarily expensive" because of its reputation. I imaging the same is true of MSK. The people cited in the article now use the Cleveland Clinic which is also an excellent institution but whose charges are more in line with the norm. Perhaps this will help in bringing down costs.

If there is a better plan out there, why didn't the opposition come up with it?
Conservative - I'm so tired of having to explain.
[ In Reply To ..]
The republicans did have good ideas. Obama would not listen to them. PERIOD. He dismissed them out of hand. Second, the plans most people had were not substandard. Stop listening to MSM.
Yes, remember when he made such a big show of (sm) - Memories
[ In Reply To ..]
inviting republicans to come to the table with their ideas? The meeting lasted for about an hour, if I recall correctly. He did not consider one of their ideas. Not one. He had no intentions of it anyway, it was just another of his dog and pony shows like the guys in the white coats posing as doctors in the Rose Garden.
Not all plans canceled were substandard, - many were Cadillac plans.
[ In Reply To ..]
If you do some research, you will see that Cadillac plans provided to employees by large corporations were subsidized by the US government on the backs of taxpayers. I bet a lot of people with Cadillac plans are unhappy now that they have to pay deductibles and co-pays like the rest of us. Too bad, so sad.
I listen to MSM, so I'm clueless. Could you please tell me what those good - pub ideas are?
[ In Reply To ..]
Please and thank you.
Article by Politifact. (sm) - Turn off MSM
[ In Reply To ..]
Some of these are good ideas, you may or may not agree with all of them. The point is Obama was having none of it. His typical my way or the highway mentality.
Did you read through the entire article? - old and burned out
[ In Reply To ..]
It says that the Republican proposals are basically worthless. As with the ACA there would be winners and losers - so no improvement there. Also they would do very little to control costs.
Yes, I read it. Obamacare is worthless - except to (sm) - Reader
[ In Reply To ..]
those who have had no insurance. Poster said you may or may not agree with them, which is your right, the same as it is Politifact's.
As far as I remember - old and burned out

their big plan was to allow insurance to be sold across state lines to increase competition. Does anyone really believe you can get the same rates in NY as you get in Mississippi? What else did they come up with?
Well, for one thing, (sm) - LM

I know the health savings plan helped quite a few people I know. So why did Obama cut it down? To screw the people, obviously. He had nothing to gain.
Health savings accounts are beyond the reach - of most people on low incomes
[ In Reply To ..]
I know some manage, but frankly I don't even contribute to a 401K anymore since my pay has been halved by my MTSO.

Link below is President Obama debating Congressman John Barrosso (R-WY) on this very subject. Barrosso says how great the high deductible plus HSA works, Pres Obama points to research stating most people who participate are making a lot of money, what about those who don't have a lot of spare income?

Rich people can still get good coverage, if they want high deductible and HSA, they can still do that.

Why THEY think they should be subsidized to pay less or the same as poor people is bewildering. They are the ones that have had the great deal for years and it's time for them to start paying their own way. After all, THEY can actually afford it!!!
So is that all we're concerned with now? (rhetorical) - sm - Tired of it.
[ In Reply To ..]
People who are too poor to afford it. I have several nieces who have average paying jobs and they have kids. They used their health savings accounts for years. Then Obama cut them too. So you have to be poor, I guess; otherwise, you're a drain on society.
How did he - "cut" them?
[ In Reply To ..]
You can still have HSA with Obamacare by my reading. Can you explain what you mean?
Just wondering if you are an MT - and if you can afford an HSA?
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe some of us used to be able to afford them, but with our now extremely low wages I think most of us are lucky we can pay our mortgage or rent, if even that. If people can afford these HSAs fine for them, but I do not apologize for caring more about lower incomes, since I am one of them!

I even wish they would NOT offer the grandfathered health insurance with my MTSO because it really stinks and I would rather be eligible for the ACA exchanges.
There's always good ol' tort reform! All lawsuits are frivolous nonsense, - dontcha know.

So, if a doctor screws up badly enough, rendering you unable to work for the rest of your life, there should be a limit on what the doc pays, and taxpayers should start footing the bill for your care. It's called personal responsibility.

If providers could save $ on insurance, we all know that they'd pass the savings on to the patient... for sure.
Changes over time = what happens to those negatively impacted? - Collateral damage.
[ In Reply To ..]
Sure .. I'm proud to be in the worst position ever - but Hey .. "OVER TIME" they will make it better ...

Who cares about those screwed NOW ...

I feel like collateral damage.
You have to be dirt poor. That's the only ones these Bozos care about now. - Payback and all that.

of the conditions set in place by too many years of Republican "rule", that set the scene for the current heartless impunity with which corporations all over America are taking things away from us with their greed. It will likely get far worse before it gets any better, and not one iota of our future problems will be the result of Obamacare. I can't afford to sign up for healthcare under the ACA, and not because it's too expensive, but because most companies don't want to hire a living, breathing, over-50 American citizen, regardless of how well they might have done the job and been an asset for that company. All they care about is TODAY's financial bottom line, so they can get theirs, and screw tomorrow.

I do not subscribe to Time, but there was a good interview on The Daily Show a few days ago. The 2 parts are about 6 minutes each.

I don't think it's designed to be 'one size fits all' but rather an organized and systematic way to deliver healthcare INSURANCE, not actual health care. 'Affordable (a portal where you spend $$ and sign up) Health Care Act' not Health Care Act. Remember how many people protested Social Security when it first came out?

I really don't understand why some of the protesters are yelling nasty things about Fox.  I just now went through the my cable channels at 5 p.m.   MSMBC has some jaibirdl show.  CNN is talking about Charlie Sheen.  HLN is ALSO talking about Charlie Sheen.   Fox is the only cable news station covering their protests and talking to them.  If it wasn't for the Fox reporter, these guys would get no cable news time this afternoon.  Bunch of twits. ...
