MSNBC apologizes for Cheerios tweet that offended Republicans
;
The person who tweeted this - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
was fired by MSNBC. If this is the state of mind over there, it makes me understand why Republicans and Conservatives are so often accused of being racist. This is where it comes from. Duh, a light bulb just went off. I had no idea that MSNBC fostered this.
Did you happen to see comments made after the first Cheerios ad? How would you - characterize them?nm

Yes, and they were ugly. - This is a second chance and
[ In Reply To ..]
MSNBC has to muddy the waters and cause more ugliness. Why do they have to lower themselves to the level of a viper? They're sick over there. If they're cleaning house and getting rid of bigots (e.g., Martin Bashir, Keith Olbermann and this latest person) they're going in the right direction, but still have some work to do.
Makes me wonder if those attacks - were propagated by
[ In Reply To ..]
the same types of bigots at MSNBC to promote racism and try to blame it on something or someone else.
Disgusting - but

not "right-wing." This was really just another cheap shot by some intolerant idiot. Doesn't MSNBC realize that if they would just quit fostering this type of environment they would be able to quit apologizing so much?
In all fairness, they did fire him, but I agree to some degree regarding - fostering
[ In Reply To ..]
Fostering and giving the impression that a certain type of behavior is acceptable is very dangerous.
It reminds me of the highly offensive, inappropriate, and idiotic comments made about women in 2010. Those who made the comments (and ultimately lost elections) probably thought they would be heroes among the ranks. That was what the party was fostering, promoted by the entertainment machine (Rush, etc.), the voice of the GOP at the time... the voice because his views and comments were never rejected by the GOP, who thereby fostered an environment ripe for incredibly ignorant and unfortunate remarks on the part of GOP candidates.
This may not be a popular comparison for Reps, but I do agree with you. Whenever someone in a position of import feels comfortable enough in any environment to make publicly inappropriate comments, the "environment" needs a closer look by the powers that be.
To their credit, MSNBC did fire the person responsible, but your point is taken about fostering.
What I'd like to know - is Cheerios.....
[ In Reply To ..]
More interested in selling Cheerios or trying to make some politically correct statement.
I think in trying to push an interracial family (which most people don't care about anymore) they lost the most important issue - buy Cheerios.
O.M.G. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
It is about a little girl whose dad tells her a baby brother is on the way and she counters with bartering Cheerios for a puppy. Can't you just enjoy this without color or race involved?
O.M.G. back at ya - is Cheerios....
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't make it about color or race. Cheerios did.
But the questions still remains...are they trying to be politically correct or sell a cereal.
OMG, who cares? - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
It's a cute commercial. Of course, it's about selling cereal. If I had never heard about this awful tweet, the matter of race/biracial family would have NEVER entered my mind. Why make it about race?
OMG then why did you reply - People should not be shocked
[ In Reply To ..]
That if someone makes an issue about biracial families and makes an ignorant comment like MSNBC did that people are going to talk about it. If MSNBC didn't make this into an issue it is not then the focus would be on cereal.
But if someone makes a statement or issue out of something then people should not be shocked that others are going to talk about it.
I will be buy a product because I like the way it tastes. Not because people with different color skin are advertising it. Anyone (like MSNBC who are obvious race baiters) who wants to make a big deal about the race should be held responsible.
I'm a little confused by this post, but - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
to put the issue to rest and to answer this question, if in fact you are asking it, I posted this originally because for the first time I had the realization that MSNBC, et al, may be causing the racial divide in this country by instigating and fostering racism.
I do agree with you - Person you replied to

Maybe I was not getting my point across which was...who cares. MSNBC was so obviously racial baiting. Whether cheerios wanted to put a biracial couple or what I don't care. At first I thought they were just trying to make a PC statement. I guess I still don't understand this and it would be interesting to know why they chose this family. Are they a real family or just actors. If they are a real family I would have more respect. If they are not, did they choose them because they thought they'd be cute in a commerical from other things they've done or was it an intentional thing. It's like the cat food I see in the store with the picture of a mother and 2 girls. Where's the father in the picture (or if she has a wife where is her partner)? I kind of like to delve into the "why's" of life. That's all.
But this would not have been a big deal and nobody would have thought anything of it if MSNBC didn't prove how racist and race baiting they are.
How is it they are still even in business?
Why indeed are they in business? - sm

I used to like NBC. Remember Tim Russert? I wonder what he would think of the devisive, slanderous, downright vulgar behaviour going on over there. It makes me sick to see us backtracking where social issues are concerned.
Tim Russert was by far one of the greatest reporters - Mrs. Tingles - sm

His death was such a shock and one of the saddest times I can remember. It was the same feeling when President Reagan and Princess Diana died. Just a very very sad loss for America.
Tim Russert was a man of true honor, integrity, and good moral standings. I know he would be against what is going on now and would have found someplace else to work.
Maybe she was a widow? Golly, I'm not sure why it matters - anyhow

Maybe she was a lucky stay-at-home mom and dad was busy bringin' home the bacon. Or maybe her husband left her for another woman. Or maybe dad was in the bathroom cleaning the toilets!! :-) That's the one that gets MY vote!
We all don't live perfect little lives in a nuclear family. Advertisers are in the business of appealing to consumers across the board.
I don't understand why it makes a difference if it was a real family or actors. There are biracial families out there. What's the harm in using an acting biracial family? They represent life. Reality. Again, advertising is all about appealing to demographics. Most of the people you see on commercials are actors.
PS MSNBC fired the guy.
Have you seen how Twitter exploded? - ZvilleMT

If only MSNBC was sincere in their apology. The only thing they ARE sincere about is keeping the race-baiting agenda going.
