We and our families are actors on that stage every waking moment of our lives. This makes it impossible to forget which party has created a brand-new class of national underbelly. Not a day goes by without being reminded by winger forum contributors what a disdained bunch of lazy, unwashed, undesirable, mooching bunch of socialist/commies we are. The ads we read have a brand new EEO-dismissive disqualifier to contend with in this tight, yet improving labor market: "Currently employed only need apply." Diss-diss, hiss-hiss.

Who among us can forget what it feels like to be transformed into a monolithic political football GOP pols take such glee in kicking around? Those lucky enough to still be collecting benefits they've earned, from funds they've paid into all their working lives, have repeatedly sat helplessly by, watching 1% sugar daddies hold our subsistence hostage to Bush tax cuts or some other piece of "special" interest, pork barrel lard or social engineering nonsense.

We know exactly how we got here and who doesn't give a flip how long we stay down. We know where our jobs went and who grabbed the spoils. We are intimately familiar with the greed and lusting for power that renders us invisible, except on the rare occasions when we're dragged out of the shadows just long enough for some drive-by shooter to (a) use us as pawns in some sick little political mind game, or (b) tell us what a bunch of losers we all are.

Do not kid yourself. While there are always some robovoters eager to support causes against their own interests, the vast majority of those 23 million will not only be pulling straight democrat, they will be working overtime to organize and get the vote out against their opponents. If you have any doubts about this, just take five and go inspect some of the forums where they hang out when not consumed with their full-time job search.

The GOP is notorious for under-estimating their opposition. The lazy moochers will not be staying home on election day crying in their suds, and will be making no runs to the liquor store in their welfare caddies to stock up on booze and cigarettes with their endless supply of food stamps. Personally, I plan to be running a carpool all day between the polls and neighborhoods where bus stops do not route their residents with transportation challenges directly to the voting booths.

I'm right there with ya...:D - JTBB

SUV is gassed up and ready to go!
I hear gas is going to be around $3/gal - come election day,
[ In Reply To ..]
which sounds like a bargain, even for my sweet, hard-working, payload-hauling, gas-guzzling Tahoe LTD ganstamobile! It seats 8 comfortably with plenty of breathing room. My target area has been mapped out by the local dem chapter, who's been organizing all year.

Being from H-town, many of us have still not recovered from the idea we had to quickly pony up $30 million to replace more than 10,000 voting machines when their warehouse storage facility was demolished in a mysterious fire, that was attributed to an "unspecified" electrical short. This happened just 51 days before our beloved Mayor Bill ran against Governor Big Hair back in 2010. Fortunately (?), because of its history of voter suppression, any changes in Texas election laws requires federal approval, so Perry's new voter ID law has been temporarily blocked. The DC US district court ruling will be issued on August 31.

Being all too familiar with Lone Star election shennanigans, the dems are not taking anything for granted. They've been mobilizing ID target populations and offering assistance to them in getting their photo IDs since the state legislature (which meets every 2 years) adjourned last summer, so that's something I volunteered to do. The residents have established pick-up and drop-off locations (churches, restaurants, grocery and retail stores, etc) where voters needing rides will gather, waiting for "taxis" designated for their areas to show up.

The plan was inspired by children and grandchildren of those who participated in the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott who live here now. I guess the more some things change, the more they stay the same. They're even going to reimburse unemployed volunteers for 50% of their gas expense. I'm really looking forward to doing my part.

Hopefully you won't run your SUV up a tree and produce any "politically incorrect" headlines. LOL.

just being a democrat is politically incorrect, much less anything else. We have the voter ID thing going on too, and I've been working mostly with the elderly getting appropriate documentation (which is usually extremely stressful for them). It kills me when I take people to the DMV and the folks working there just act like they're a big inconvenience, and those folks are the same ones who have fought for our country, our rights, and our freedom.

Unemployment would be down further if not for Republican Obstructionism - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I read that it is estimated unemployment would be down a full percentage point if Republicans would allow government employment to be at the level that existed during the Bush administration. With the additional point down, the economy would be further stimulated, probably leading to even less unemployment. But that would hinder the Republican plan of making President Obama a 1-term president, and we certainly cannot have that.

Grow the government bigger? Obama reelected? - Can't have either of those.

that bigger government means more politicians. It means more people to do jobs like weed out fraud in the medicaid/medicare system, make sure regulations are followed by big companies so we do not keep having our food poisoned and our land destroyed, more police, more fire, things like that, all government workers.

handling that 50-to-100:1 student-teacher ratio the GOP envisons for our kiddos, living in a post-Pink Floyd world of hurt, all neatly tucked away and out of sight, behind The Wall.

A "good" little teacher should always know his or her place in the social order, and never expect to make more than, say, 151% above the poverty line...just a hair over means-tested guidelines for federal or state assistance benefits, but still in line with new middle-class tax bracket gouging. Of course lession plans will reflect the Texas Board of Education model, where textbooks have been meticulously purged of any mention of the 150 years workers spent organizing to promote their rights.

While no formal credit hours will be required to meet their extracurricular duties, our educators will have many new doors of opportunities open to them in janitorial and kitchen services, and can look forward to rotating weekdays driving buses, along with every-other weekend, reserved for parking lot detail that they can swap out, should they desire, for a maintenance apprenticeship in the bus barn.

Yup, and wedont need no liberians, muzik or fizicle edkashun - Just rock n roll -nm
