What jealousy.

Is there an echo in here? Is that really what you think - is an effective campaign tactic?

I bet you watched ***?

Wow. Looks like the report message police were - out in full force

[ In Reply To ..]
I'll explain this again so my post isn't reported and deleted for going "off topic."

I wanted to compare the common "you're jealous" response to those who question Ann Romney's spending and lavish lifestyle as indicators of her being completely out of touch with middle class working folks with the "Mooch" or "spending my tax money" response to Michelle Obama's spending usually expressed by those who hurl the "you're jealous" line at others.

I decided to do this by repeating a standard "jealous" response from a post below and use sarcasm to get my point across... that's it's wrong to try and minimize someone's concerns and dismiss them with a flippant "you're just jealous."

If someone can explain how commenting on reactions to how the current and possible future first lady spend money is going "off topic" in a thread about MO spending money, I'd love to hear it.

Well, now, I see you liked my post - below so much, you copied!

Obamas' spending - I think this is relevant

[ In Reply To ..]
He has spent to the point where it is ridiculous since being in office, and I have often wondered where the money comes from for all her clothes and private trips. Don't flame me. It is OUR $$ they are spending.

to the same destination when one would suffice, for example. The Os have thumbed their noses at taxpayers from Day One.
The Obamas are busy people who often have - conflicting schedules.
[ In Reply To ..]
They are also raising two kids, so I begrudge them nothing when it comes to grabbing some down time together every chance they get. They've earned it. It's no different than taking two cars to the same restaurant, then taking off in different directions after dinner, something me and my husband do all the time. The "excess" claim does not even rise to the level of urban myth. Sour grapes is more like it.
And the spin starts--If it was Romney you'd be - squealing like a pig::Nice to see the hypocrites

No I wouldn't. As POTUS reminded us last night, he's only - the window tapping wannabe
[ In Reply To ..]
He's not spending taxpayer bucks, just his poor hoodwinked donors' dollars. I seriously doubt he'll ever break the perennial candidate glass ceiling, so I'm pretty carefree on that score. That kinda sorta blows your jealousy over a "successful" Republican theory clean out of the water.

PS: GOP extremists are right-"Wingers." Your misuse of the term tends to ***
There was no "misuse" of the term - annieb - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
She was correct in the use of her term "Wingers" in referring to the DNC. Extremist are in both DNC and RNC. You have far right wingers and you have far left wingers.

BTW, you misused the term GOP. It used to be GOP, which stands for Grand Old Party (which it definitely is Grand), but that term is more of a historical reference than a working acronym. However, to many liberals dismay, stating GOP is not an insult. We are proud to belong to the grand party of republicans.

"Wingers" is not specific to one party.

[ In Reply To ..]
you and your husband paid for those cars and the gas and the insurance yourselves I assume. And taking the car is not in the same ballpark $$ wise as flying anywhere. If they bought the plane and paid for all the expenses, that would be fine, but since we taxpayers paid for it..... I do begrudge them. let them take all the time they want. Just don't make it cost me thousands of dollars that could be put to better use. Who the **** needs an outfit that totals thousands of dollars?? they are wasteful with my money while we can barely pay the mortgage and put foot on the table and I raised two children, too. it's insulting and insensitive.

Don't be absurd. The Obamas can afford to pay - for their own clothes.

[ In Reply To ..]
We've been down the vacation road before. What taxpayers pay for are security of life and limb for our POTUS and FLOTUS. It's a perk that comes with the job, if being protected against assassination can be considered a perk. Her "private" trips are never all that private, considering she has staff that travels with her. Annie-pie will get the same royal treatment, ***. They don't ask for it. It comes with the territory.

Yes, we pay for security but here's the problem - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]
FLOTUS has taken 16 'vacations' since 2009. A lot of times, they take separate flights so you can double the cost to taxpayers for those flights. It's a shame that we don't know the costs for all 16 trips, but sooner or later, it will come out.

Trips/Costs:
Spain cost us $467,585.
Africa cost us $424,142.
Hawaii 2011 cost us $1.5M (includes POTUS)
Aspen 2012 cost us $83,000

Here is a full list of the 16 vacations:

Spring Break 2012 to Mexico with extra security for the 25 extra school friends: $1M.

President's Day 2012, Michelle and the girls go to Aspen to ski.

Christmas 2011, the first family goes to Hawaii for an extended vacation.

Summer 2011, the family visits Martha's Vineyard, Mass., for the annual beach break.

June 2011, the first lady, her mother and daughters travel to South Africa and Botswana.

President's Day 2011, the first lady and first daughters travel to Vail to ski.

Christmas 2010, the first family goes to Hawaii - Did this trip cost $1.5M, too?

August 2010, post-BP oil spill beach trip to Panama City Beach, Fla.

August 2010, Obama travels to Chicago alone for a weekend 49th birthday bash (and fundraiser).

August 2010, the first lady and daughter Sasha travel to Spain for a mother-daughter vacation.

August 2010, the family spends summer vacation in Martha's Vineyard.

July 2010, the first family goes to Mount Desert Island, Maine.

May 2010, the first family takes a four-day trip to Chicago.

March 2010, first lady and daughters spend spring break in New York City.

Christmas 2009, the family goes to Hawaii for the winter break. Cost $1.5M?

August 2009, everyone heads to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon for a short vacation.

August 2009, the first family takes its first vacation from the White House at Martha's Vineyard.

Guess they decided to take as many trips as they could on our dime before the taxpayers started getting wise to them.

Taking a vacation is one thing. This goes way past reasonable - The Sarge - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Taking a vacation is one thing. I understand the job of a president is stressful, so heck, take two vacations. But if you are going to take a vacation you pay for it out of your own income. If you can't afford $467K out of your own pocket then you alter your plans for a more reasonable vacation. These people need to learn they are not royalty. It is not the tax payers responsibility to pay for the first ladies shopping trips or the children's school friends. That is not why there are people paying taxes, so they can steal the money and party with it. Take a trip but make it reasonable. None of these vacations should have cost the tax paper the amount that they have. Besides, there is Camp David. That is where they should be spending their vacations. That is where they are supposed to relax from the stress of the job.

I find it appalling that we have a couple who act like Marie Antoinette and Louis Auguste. The people of this country are struggling. Losing their homes and jobs, can't feed and clothe their children and now they find out they are having to pay for them to gallivant all over the world.

I'm appalled and I'm more ashamed that there are people who defend that. People who defend that kind of behavior. The actions of those who defend this is called treason.

and what little evidence we have about how they handle their financial affairs points to penny-pinching greed down to the bone, so the assumption that they are footing their own bills is less than credible, considering how allergic they are to tax shares. I already explained this in a previous message, but since you didn't read, here, let me explain again.

The term "wingers" is not specific to any one party. It references people who are far right AND far left. A left-winger is a liberal or radical faction of a group.

I would appreciate it if you would stop telling posters they are confusing the term, when it is you who are confused.

a post with name calling?

I do recall the left verbally beating Sarah Palin up because of her attire during the 2008 campaign or perhaps you had forgotten about that.

As for what I care about...I care that it took over 350,000 Americans to drop out of the workforce in order for the unemployment rate to drop to 8.1%. I care that in 3 years this president has added more to our debt than any other president. I care that our president says he is going to save us money by taking the money from the wars and using it in other areas. The only problem with that is the money we used for the wars was borrowed money. Using borrowed money to pay for something else doesn't really save us money, now does it? I care that we are weakening our defenses. I care that this president has no business experience and so has no idea what it takes to help businesses. Without helping people expand, start or keep their businesses we are hurting our economic recovery. I care that we don't know where all that stimulus money went. I care that our government is getting to big and too involved in our everyday personal lives. I care that this administration seems content to enable those who could do for themselves but won't. I care that this administration undid the welfare reform done during the Clinton administration. I care that this president is spending our money to allow other countries to drill for oil but refuses to let us do so here. I care that this president is going to destroy the coal industry and crushing those Americans who depend on that for their income. I care that this president refused a pipeline that would have provided shovel ready jobs for many Americans.

I honestly couldn't care less what Michelle Obama wears.

BRAVO!!! - nm

How Important Are The Debates?Oct 01, 2012
I plan on watching, but my vote is already decided.  I don't expect, however, to hear any real ideas or specifics from either side - it seems that it's usually a live campaign commercial.  Every once in a while someone gets in a good one-liner, but it's just usually attacks, rebuttels, and questionable facts and figures.
