I predict that Romney campaign is doing damage control and...sm

will announce his VP choice this week or next, more than a month before the convention, to deflect attention from the cry from both sides for his tax returns.

Do you have a guess as to who he'll pick? - Zville MT

I'm just curious. I think it'll be Rob Portman, but I don't think he'll announce until August.

I heard he's considering Paul Ryan, - sm

I can't think of a worse choice. Remember, if Romney should die while in office, his vice president would automatically become president, and I can't think of anything worse for the poor and middle class.

I worked my whole life and paid into Social Security my entire lifetime, and I don't want to lose my Social Security and Medicare, just so the rich can become richer.

Even if he doesn't choose Ryan, Romney has already agreed with the Ryan budget.

The United States as we know it will come to a screeching halt, and the poor and middle class will be tossed aside to die on the streets.

Remember, the Republicans had years to establish a healthcare plan for this country, and they never cared to do so. They have no plan now and still don't care about anyone but the ultra rich.

If Romney wins, we will go to war against Iran on Israel's time line; in fact, we already have aircraft carriers in the region.

I will miss America once it becomes an oligarchy.

Then we'd be hearing bipartisan calls for BOTH of them - to release their returns

[ In Reply To ..]
I wonder if the prospective picks have to swear not to release more than two years of their returns, so as not to upstage Mr. Opaque, who has dug himself into that deep, dark hole?

Well, then. - sm

Obama failed economic communist policies.

Obama failed communist foreign policies.

Obama failed policies for job creations.

Obama failed stimulus.

Obama refusing to release college transcripts,

Obama refusing to releasel his birth certificate for years.

That's just a few....got plenty more.

Excellent post - what if

[ In Reply To ..]
This is just a diversion to address the real issues you listed (plus more).

I say he should release them when - what if - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Obama releases his college application or better yet when he releases anything. Otherwise its a no go on the forms. We should see the same years of tax forms as we do for the democrats. Nobody needs to see 10 year or more of tax forms. Two years is plenty, 3 or 4 at the most.

Romney is not doing damage control. He's just following the same guidelines democrats hold for themselves.

I believe his VP has already been picked. Picking a VP and showing tax forms, birth certificate, college records, etc, is two different things. Announcing who a running mate is is a different issue than showing his whole lives worth of tax forms. I am hopeful it will be Rubio. Will be a better team that what we are stuck with now.

The hypocrisy on this board is reaching monumental proportions. Where is Obama's 10 years of tax returns? Where is ANY documentation of ANY thing from the Obama camp that has not been doctored or spun as to be unrecognizable? Obama Democrats have no business asking of Romeny what they refuse to provide. Why not list the multitude of Dems (including Obama) with off shore accounts and/or overseas holdings?

Obama DID release 10 years of tax returns. - What are you talking about?

regardless of how many times Lamebaugh, Beckster and devotees try to launch this meaningless tripe into mainstream media.

So you think leaving all this up to people’s imaginations is the best campaign strategy, eh? Good luck with that, but here's a few notions folks might conjure up:

1. When he was pro-choice before he wasn't, he made a couple of sizeable donations to Planned Parenthood.

2. He's not a felon after all since he was actively involved in Bain from 1999 to 2002, but decided to lie about anyway, hoping voters would stop trying to find out how many Americans lost their jobs either as a direct or indirect result of his most profitable vulture capitalist tactics that netted him countless millions more in wealth.

3. He and Ann have his and her boatloads of offshore accounts scattered north, south, east and west across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. To their credit, they don't have any holdings in the Arctic and Southern Oceans just yet.

4. He didn’t pay any tax at all for a decade or so, and his proposed tax cuts would give him a nifty little refund.

5. His returns would help clarify exactly how his 59-point plan is a big fat money grab for himself and his kids.

6. His reported income to IRS does not match up with what he reported to LDS and he tithes ten times more to LDS than he pays in tax.

7. The reality is much worse than the speculation.

Oh, by the way, check out the Pew polling on Romney tax return issues in the swing states. Don’t bother trying to find a poll on the transcript release. There aren’t any because nobody cares about candidates' SAT scores and GPAs since they don't affect leadership styles or ethics and we already know who got the cum laude and who got the magna cum laude from Harvard.

A whole bunch of "wrongness" in your assumptions - what if - sm

1. What I wrote is not from some email. Not even a nice try.

2. What I write didn't come from Rush, Beck or anyone else. Don't watch or listen to them Again, not even a nice try.

3. He should be held to the same standards as democrats.

4. Obama has not released his records. And I'll tell you this. It's not about SAT scores. Again, not even a nice try.

Obama has absolutely NO leadership style or ethics.

So we agree. The candidates from both parties should be held to the same standards. Maybe we could talk transcripts AFTER Mittwit ponies up his returns.

BTW, where ARE Romney's college transcripts? He's provided his short form BC, but where's the long form? The short form shows his dad was born in Mexico. Has junior proven his dad immigrated to the US legally, or did he swim across the Rio Grande in the middle of the night? Inquiring minds want to know.

The birthers want to see Obama's passport. I'd just LOVE to see how many times the Romneys have visited their money in Ireland (Goldman Sachs Liquid Reserve Funds), Luxembourg (Bain Capitol and other funds), Germany (private equity firm), Switzerland (a little $3 million slush fund account), Bermuda (blind trust in undisclosed Bermuda company), Cayman Islands (interests in several investments partnerships) and Australia (property mgmt company).

Has he ever given any plausible explanation about why he spent $205,000 in taxpayer funds replacing hard drives and email servers and trashed 150 boxes of hard copy government records before leaving the governor's office? Was it sheer panic over the very idea of public scrutiny of his political experience during his future run for POTUS or just habitual cover-your-tracks behavior?

Does Rawmoney have a clean bill of health? Has he ever been treated for his severe transparency phobias? If so, does his treatment plan include any addictive pharmacological substances that could explain his abrupt compulsive policy and ideological reversals and the recurrent storms of impaired judgment, such as we are witnessing in his campaign's current meltdown?

So far off base on your comments - what if - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I said he should release them when Obama releases his college application (meant transcripts).

So it's obvious you've got it out for anyone with money by your comments. Guess who else has money? The Obama's, the Clinton's, the Biden's, the Pelosi's. All of them are more than wealthy. I see it's only republicans with money that's a problem.

I also said "Nobody needs to see 10 year or more of tax forms. Two years is plenty, 3 or 4 at the most."
Uh, two is not plenty for me. - see message
[ In Reply To ..]
We have the right to expect certain things from people who ask all of us to pay them HUGE salaries with top-notch medical coverage and endless retirement benefits (none of which I or my husband have) AND give them the ability to take my country to war.

No, two years is NOT plenty, in my opinion....especially not when those two years cover only the last two, when Romney knew he would be running for president.

By the way, I DO actually think that Pelosi, Reid, Boehner, and every single other person who has any say and control in our country's tax laws SHOULD have to release their tax returns, too!! I think it's unbelievable that they AREN'T currently required to do this. I have no idea how we can get that law changed since THEY are the ones who make the laws that apply to themselves. What if we could all vote in our pay raises the way they do? I think we live in the greatest country in the world, but sometimes I'm absolutely disgusted with what we've allowed to go on for way too long.

I don't think employers have the right to see potential employees' tax returns in the normal employer/employee relationship; but where the employee (political candidate) will have the authority to enact and change the law regarding tax deductions and tax law, I absolutely do think the employer (taxpayers) have the right to see that!!

Sunlight is a great disinfectant. Yes, I want ALL members of Congress to have to reveal their tax returns, too, but I want to start with the man who is asking us to make him the leader of the free world. I don't care one iota about his birth certificate or his school transcripts.

I'm frustrated and angry about what this whole election process has become. It feels like a sham, all the way around, and one that WE pay for the "privilege" of having foisted on us!

The President Who Has Done The Most DamageSep 14, 2014
I have been broadcasting for 31 years and writing for longer than that. I do not recall ever saying on radio or in print that a president is doing lasting damage to our country. I did not like the presidencies of Jimmy Carter (the last Democrat I voted for) or Bill Clinton. Nor did I care for the “compassionate conservatism” of George W. Bush. In modern political parlance “compassionate” is a euphemism for ever-expanding government. But I have never written or broadcas ...
