Obama to New Orleans, and met with Bobby Jindal. LOL - I have to say, I'm quite impressed with the way the Romney campaign doesn't "spring leaks" like the Obama WH. If Obama had heard one word about Romney going, he would have been there long ago, wouldn't you agree? All of a sudden we see MR boarding the plane on his way. I love it.

There was no reason to announce the anticipated trip to NOLA prior to the previously scheduled official visit to Fort Bliss to mark the second anniversary of the end of the war in Iraq....that is, until the winger blogosphere erupted with its early morning nanny-nanny-boo-boo reports of Romney's last-minute NOLA jaunt announcement. Unlike the wannabe, the POTUS is personally vested in his campaign promise to end that war and take care of veterans and their families.

Aside from that, visiting a formally declared national disaster area is no bull-in-the-china-shop, spur-of-the-moment undertaking, at least not for a POTUS. There are protocols in place, lessons learned from the last administration's initial indifference, followed by an utterly stupendous display of mismanagement back in 2005.

Jay Carney calls it "unique logistical challenges," when speaking about ironing out security details in preparation for the president's travels. Evidently, better judgment prevailed when the WH decided the time to do that was NOT when the storm was dumping torrential rains, and private levies were on the brink of collapse. This just might explain the "delay" between landfall and the time it took Isaac to creep across the state.

Then there are considerations made to the impact the visit may have on aftermath clean-up operations, the priority being search and rescue, clearing debris from streets and major thoroughfares, and assessing damage to traffic control mechanisms, such as signage and signal lights. That's why they chose Monday for the POTUS ETA.

On the other hand, nominee wannabe wasted no time in his efforts to upstage the president's appearance, despite the fact that he has no authority to affect any immediate substantial benefit to those Gulf Coast residents who lost everything, cannot go back to their homes, have lost their vehicles, have dwindling food supplies, and/or are without utilities for the indefinite future. What Romney CAN do is to restore Bobby Jindal's "missed opportunity" and give him a second chance to give the candidate a pep talk and put in a few plugs on his own behalf for his future GOP political aspirations. I hear they're gonna stop over at a command center for a photo op, and I betcha the governor's staff has a fine meal at the mansion planned for their special guest.
