17 MILLION is pocket change... - think ya might of meant trillion?

and to THINK the debt was at absolute ZERO when Bush turned over the reigns.
Yes, of course that's what I meant. - Blame Bush - going on 6 years now. LOL

That wasn't the point - and you know it - The point was that

he didnt come in with a clean slate - he came in with the ACCUMULATION of all administrations before him - Republican and Democrat
And as to BUSH? He will be blamed for MILLENIA. Deal.
You need a history lesson. Clinton left office (sm) - Teacher

with a surplus. Obama has raised it more than any other president, and he just keeps spending wildly. We will be crushed under the weight of his wild sprees. (The Plan)

I've got a news bulletin for ya... there was a president - BETWEEN Clinton and Obama

And for someone lecturing me as a self-proclaimed 'teacher' it appears you are the one who needs a history lesson.
Now as to the debt ONE MORE TIME I will say that the debt has been building for a very long time - through many administrations.
If you were fair you'd stop pretending this is all on Obama.
Learn to stay on topic, $328 billion in 1 day! - the world is laughing at us

Go ahead, scold again.
Come on, admit you were "schooled" - Teacher, and move on

Both sides took a beating in this debacle but you can only see one party to blame. But I originally called you on your nonfactual statements above. Instead of defending your posts with reasoned debate you notsokindly suggested I needed a history lesson. And in doing THAT, instead of conceding any point (as i have done) you proved an earlier point i made - that it is mostly progressives who try to be fair and actually discuss things on this board.
Do you not realize these actions don't advance your position? That ANY fair person on the board regardless of party can distinguish partisan attack from reasoned dialogue?
You are right about the world laughing at us - that's really not new though. Neither is the deep-seated resentment much of the world feels at the way we marched through Iraq looking for 'our' oil.
I will say this: IF, AGAIN IF, the debt had to rise again, at least THIS time the president was fighting for a principle - saving ACA. Until or unless it is proven a failure it's MY best hope of not dying from an illness I cant even afford to get diagnosed. Of course, we COULD always implement the Republican cough nonexistant cough alternative.
Pocket change for vacays for the FF and a special - plane ride for dog.

A Congress - that

wasn't trying to sabotage a duly elected president of a different party at the expense of the nation's entire population, no doubt.
US debt jumps a record $328 billion, tops - 17 trillion

I thought Obama said that raising the debt ceiling - would not raise the debt?
[ In Reply To ..]
Complaints about a president’s actions are always ignored by those that support him and yes Congress is to blame too, as they authorize spending.
that's correct - sm

Certain media outlets are capitalizing on the 328-billion-dollars-in-one-day meme. It's a specious claim and not based in fact.
"Experts we spoke to agreed that Obama is on safe ground when he says that raising the debt ceiling "does not increase our debt. It does not grow our deficits."
To fix things you have to understand what - Rockabilly

the problem is, not a constant state of retribution for past actions. That's why amendments are left on record, to learn from them.

Uncomfortable With DebtAug 09, 2011Does Debt Make You Uncomfortable? After years of being in debt where 90% was not even yours, you feel so much better being debt free. Then something comes up where you have to be in debt again with 80% having nothing to do with you with worry of where that could end up. Really not a fan of debt, I rather use funds that exist, however when something medical comes up there is only so much that can be done, even being needed ones does not have to be comfortable with it. ...

Raising The Debt Limit. A Little Bit Of HistoryApr 14, 2011After World War II ended, the debt limit was reduced to $275 billion. Because the Korean War was mostly financed by higher taxes rather than by increased debt, the limit remained at $275 billion until 1954. After 1954, the debt limit was reduced twice and increased seven times, until March 1962 when it again reached $300 billion, its level at the end of World War II. Since March 1962, Congress has enacted 74 separate measures that have altered the limit on federal debt.

Six Costs Of Not Raising The Debt CeilingJul 26, 2011What started as hot air has now become a thunder cloud. Should Congress fail to reach a compromise to raise the debt ceiling, a multitude of economic sectors could take a hit—if not come to a screeching halt.
