Sarah Palin snub by Margaret Thatcher aides infuriates US rightwing
Sarah and her entourage are planning a stopover in London to attend the unveiling of a statue of Ronald Reagan on his 100th birthday in Grosvenor Square on their SarahPAC funded jaunt to Sudan. Another magical mystery tour with yet to be announced intent that appears to be aimed at a high-profile stab at dabbling in foreign policy affairs. The scathing snub reported in the first link is fairly staightforward and Limbaugh's outrage is right on cue, but the article makes for an interesting read just the same. Hopefully she will realize that Star of David is not a just a pretty bauble one throws on to make a fashion statement before touchdown in this nascent nation, the oil wealth of which the US cannot wait to gets its hands on. Even the friendly folks in Israel (also on the itinerary) may take umbrage at the sight of this Evangelical Christians' poster child's garish display of cultural insensitivity, which conveys little more than a celebrity political figure in the middle of an identity crisis.
In the interest of wishing her well as she embarks on her Sarah Sees the World journey, Glen Pearson offered a few helpful tips that may prove useful: Always try to remember that Africa is a continent, not a country. Keep in mind that Southern Sudan's incubating autonomy is not viewed nearly as favorably by its neighboring nations as it is by the US on account of the years and years of bloody civil war, violence, infighting and deaths in the hundreds of thousands. Do not call for premature dancing in the streets in celebration of their new-found independence. This status is hardly a done deal and the heavy lifting has just begun. That highly questionable 93% alleged democratic endorsement of the president might be the first clue.
Do not gush too much over the minority Christian population (as opposed to Moslems to the North). They are outnumbered by tribal animists, so keep Jesus Christ on the sidelines and the anti-Islamic rhetoric to yourself. Relegating Moslems to second-class status is a sure way for Southern Sudan to sign its own death warrant. Do not turn a blind eye to the key role Darfur plays in the evolving diplomatic relations between North and South, but zip the lip if all you can do is fracture the complex history of the three entities.
Above all, do not cheapen the near insurmountable obstacles they have overcome and protracted struggles of the millions who have died and are homeless by trying to make this all about you. Do. Not. Do. That.
Oh, I almost forgot. Its probably best to refrain from endorsing this guy (President Salva Kiir Mayardit). Obama has already been there and done that.
