Excellent post. Just wish whoever made it would have kept the music out.

It is a fact that whenever there are gun bans crime goes up.

I feel more comfort in knowing that there is a law abiding citizen out there who has weapons training and knows how to protect citizens that could be walking somewhere in my vicinity rather than live in a country where all weapons are banned (except for the criminals who have them of course).

Thanks for the post. Glad to know I live in the wonderful country of USA, where our constitution actually means something to a lot of people.

And a big thanks to all of you who will be there to protect me should I ever need it.

Firearm laws in Australia are enforced at a State level. The minimum age for any shooter is 12 years. To obtain a full firearm licence a person must pass a background check, a basic course of firearm safety and be at least 18 years of age.

For every firearm, a purchaser must obtain a Permit To Acquire. The first permit for each person has a mandatory 28 day delay before it is issued. In some states, such as Queensland, this is waived for second and subsequent firearms of the same class, whilst in others, it is not.

For each firearm a "Genuine Reason" must be given, relating to pest control, hunting, target shooting, or collecting. Self-defense is not accepted as a reason for issuing a licence.

Handguns are only available to target shooting club members after a rigorous probation period. Since the 1996 Port Arthur massacre, all semi-automatic longarms and pump shotguns have been almost completely banned. There is an on-going amnesty for those who surrender such weapons.

12 months, huh? Hardly enough time for a valid assessment, especially in view of the fact that the anmesty program is ongoing AND gun permits are essentially issued to the gun-hugging populations, i.e., hunters, target shooters, and collectors. Those who love gyns re he most likely to USE guns.

This is primarily an enforcement problem with a very simple solution. Complete the anesty program, institute a country-wide ban with zero tolerance, then impose exhorbitant fines, long harsh sentences with no parole, then reassess in another couple of years.

The poster is trying to make a point to Americans to CLUE UP! No one should have to prove why he/she wants a firearm in this country. They want to do a background check, let them, but Australia says "self-defense" is NOT a reason to issue a firearm! SELF-DENSE!

one must be equipped with facts. Fact is that Australia does not have a gun ban in place, rather a partial gun ban in progress. Therefore, you cannot build any viable argument around the Constitution, gun control or anything else for that matter with a false premise based on a half truth. Debate 101.

Your source was trying to assert that banning guns causes drime to rise False claim behind a false premise, since in fact, there is only a partial ban with an amnesty program ongoing. Gun-huggers are trying to further extrapolate justification for their relentless harping insistence that American life as we know it would come to a grinding halt without unfettered gun ownership by using yet another scare tactic, i.e. rise in crime. False claim based on a false claim based on a false premise.

Attacking a source does not change the truth of the content found therein. A gun ban does not correlate with a rise in crime over a 12 month period, which again is not a sufficient amount of time for a PARTIAL gun ban with an ongoing amnesty program to be adequately assessed.

Obviously, you are not interested in debating any of the other points I made, so feel free to attack the accurate source and defend the one with the half-truths. This is what you guys do best.
