paralyzed

Posted: Dec 4, 2010

This illness has permanently deformed my face. Can you believe it?  The neuros that saw me are trying to blow this off as a "conversion disorder" when I know it is Guallain-Barre.  That is the only thing that can paralyze your spine and facial muscles as I do not have MS or ALS to my knowledge. I could die from this as all my facial muscles are paralyzed. I can barely eat.   I am going to see yet a 4th neuro and when I get this diagnosed I am filing a multimillion dollar lawsuit.  I am so mad!  I have severe conjunctivits, blepharitis and a completely numb deformed face now when I used to be pretty.  UGH! Thanks for listening.

have you had any testing done? - long time CMA

They can do blood work, EMG, and spinal tap. Have you had any of these? If not, request them. I wish you luck and hope you get well soon!

Negative blood work, won't do spinal tap as they don't think it is Guallain-Barre. I think it is a failed laminectomy, horrible headaches 24/7 and paralyzed muscles from head down. I am just about suicidal.

Are there any big university hospitals near you? If so I would go there as they are usually more thorough and will think "out of the box" when local doctors don't or can't get it. I live near Baltimore and there is John Hopkins and University of Maryland, both really big university facilities and some of the best in the country. I know it is a real PIA but you need to be very persistent until you get this solved, as it sounds like it is only getting worse and worse. I will keep you in my prayers and let us know how you are doing.

I live in Missouri. I have been to the major hospitals and they all felt it was my C spine so I think this is failed cervical spine surgery. I had a C3-7 laminectomy in 2002. Have paralyzed vocal cords now, went back to ER and they would not admit me for MRI. He said it was not Guallain-Barre. I wonder how they can tell without a spinal tap. Please pray God will provide. I live alone and am in debt from this as well as regular bills. I will really miss being an MT as I have always loved my job. I am going to work as long as I can. I belong to a wonderful church and am praying they will help me too. It is hard to face losing everything and laying in a bed the rest of your life. I appreciate all your prayers. God Blses You!

Mary:

Since you live in Missouri, have they checked you for Lyme disease by any chance? And please, if you are feeling suicidal, go to the nearest ER and tell them that, okay? Good luck. I will be saying a prayer for you tonight.

Yes tested negative for Lyme. I have paralyzed orbicularis oculi muscles and all spinal muscles. They will not do spinal tap for GB since I still have some leg reflexes. What other diseases paralyze your eye muscles besides GB? I don't have optic neuritis. Thanks so much for your prayers. I really feel near death here and have gone to about 4 ERs with no help.
Have you gone to Cox Health - long time CMA

My Dad and his wife live in Springfield and he has told me that they have a huge facility owned by Cox Health near them. I have never been very impressed with the physicians my dad has seen out there, although I have never met them. He did have a back surgery and the doc did a terrible job. When he was in Maryland visiting and I was working inhouse as a supervisor for the transcription department I had him get a second opinion on his back from one of our best back guys and he said everything except for directly saying you should sue him for the work he did. I will find out the name for you so that you do not go to him, but I would definitely go see a spine surgeon if you really think it is your neck, but also I agree with the poster below that asks about Lyme disease. I will keep you in my prayers and wish you well, hopefully they will diagnose and fix you soon!

Would you please pray for me.  All my muscles are paralyzed from head to toe incuding face.  Neurologists do not know what it is and do not care. I know this has to be Guallain-Barre syndrome but the doctors I have seen will not do a spinal tap as I still have leg reflexes except when I lay down.  All my skin is peeling off too like a snake even my moles.  I read somewhere this can happen.  I am so scared for my job and my life and still trying to work like this.&nb ...

I am sure this is failed cervical spine surgery all levels.  They cannot find anything else but won't admit that is what it is especially the surgeon who did it.  Thanks for all your help and ideas.  ...

All my brain MRI's show white matter lesions of a nonspecific demyelinating disease  The neuros said this is normal for age?  Has anyone ever heard of this being normal?  I passed my swallow test so the last neuro ruled out MS.  I guess this is failed neck surgery but my head is completely numb which does not really correlate with my neck as we all know the cranial nerves are in our brains.  This is just crazy!  I am just miserable and am afraid ...

Well I had a video swallow today that was normal.  I wonder if that means I don't have MS?  I do, however, have decreased arm and leg reflexes and white matter lesions on my brain.  I am so scared with no answer and in horrifying pain in my head from occipital and trigeminal neuralgia. ...

Ok now I am so paralyzed when I stick my tongue out it jerks rapidly by itself.  Went to the ER yesterday and they thought it might be myasthenia gravis  or Guallain-Barre and sent me home?  I have yet to see another neuro but I think my time is about up.  This is really scaring me now. ...
