Light sensitivity

Posted: Dec 29, 2014

I have light sensitivity that is driving me nuts.  I consider it to be severe because even inside my house if the curtains are open, even if the sun is not shining in (like on a rainy day) I am sitting here squinting.  Sometimes my eyes are almost closed and I can just look out a little cos the light hurts my eyes and they ache.

I've tried wearing sunglasses, but they don't help.  My eyes still ache, only everything is a little darker, but I still squint.

In Oct went to eye doc.  I've got very dry eyes and I put eye drops in all day (he said that's good and said except for the corneal abrasions I get when I wake up, my eyes are healthy).  He told me Omega 3 oil is good for dry eyes and if I take it daily in about 3 months I should start seeing some improvement.

Since my eye appointment my eyes have been changing, which I'm pretty ticked about because I can no longer wear my new glasses.  I just got progressives and a separate pair of computer glasses because I couldn't see with my old ones.  Now here it is 3 months later and I cannot see anything out of my progressive lenses, and I have to take off my computer glasses to see the computer and I now can see across the room with the computer glasses, but not far away.  This is so so frustrating.  I have a doc's appt at the end of January.  I'm pretty sure I know what I have, but will get tested, etc.

Sorry if I rambled.  Here is my questions (2 of them):

1.  Does anyone here have severe light sensitivity and is there any solutions/relief?

2.  Will Omega 3 help with the light sensitivity along with the dry eyes?

I cannot wait for my doc appt.  I don't know what I'm going to do about my glasses.  I cannot afford more glasses, these are brand new (worn just a few times times and were expensive), and I can't get them taken care of until I see the doc and find out what's going on.  Now it's the light sensitivity that is very annoying and I'm trying to find a solution.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know the answers to your questions - but I wish you luck.

Did you see an actual ophthalmologist or just an optometrist? Sounds like you need a specialist in light sensitivity.

Could be too much time on computer - wheres_my_job

I had a lot of problems with my eyes when I had to type on blue screen/white text combo.

Then the size of the font, glare on the computer screen - it was painful to look at the computer screen.

less time on computer - less light sensitivity.

Although I HATE those sunny summer days when there's not a cloud in the sky - in the winter when you get a sunny January day, I like those. But in the summer - even the fall - those bright sunny days I can't stand. Almost migraine-inducing.

Make sure you have good lighting in your home (not too much shadows, just good even light, not too bright), turn down brightness on computer screen, and maybe if you watch TV, cut down on that.

In short, see if too much electronic screen time is making your eyes like this.

Good luck.

My solution - Invisible Ink

I had to resort to green background, white or black text. Also, I began using indirect light near my computer desk; sometimes simply a light on the keyboard with no other light helped.

Also, limiting computer time (as mentioned above) definitely helps. Stay with the eye drops. Progressives were never good for me; too expensive, especially when I had to change them. I only changed my computer glasses when necessary.

Hope things improve for you!!

Light Bulb BanDec 29, 2012
Don't forget to get your 75 watt incandescent light bulbs before January 1st, when they will be removed from the shelves. We lost 100 watt bulbs in 2012, and will lose 60 and 40 watt ones in 2014. The Fed claims the new corkscrew bulbs are "more energy efficient," but that's just another lie. There is little profit margin in the incandescent bulbs, and the corkscrews are made off-shore and cost us, the consumer" a fortune. ...

HELP - Extreme Light SensitivyJan 18, 2012
I need to find a remedy and fast.  I've got too much work to deal with this.  I have such extreme light sensitivity.  I'm typing with both eyes squinted almost shut.  One iI hold closed the other one all I'm seeing is a little bit.  The light is so bad.  What I'm typing looks blurry so I type then shut my eyes a few seconds open and try and read a sentence at a time.  This is no way going to work.  I put a warm compress on my eyes every ...

When Your Low-fuel Light Comes, How Many More Miles Before Your Run Out Of Gas?Oct 16, 2014
I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier.  It doesn't have an actual "low-fuel light."  It has a light that says "check gauges" when the gas gauge hits E.  Normally, I would have filled up before now, but I'm broke and payday is tomorrow.  So I really I just have to make it until tomorrow morning.  I work in the office and have to drive about 40 miles to get back home.  The light came on this morning on my way to work and I had 15 miles left of my commute.  So to ...

Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group, released 296 pages of emails from the Democratic presidential nominee, including 44 that Judicial Watch says were not previously handed over to the State Department by Clinton. The emails, many of which are heavily redacted, raise questions about t ...

Shedding Light On Obama's "plan"Nov 28, 2012
Never thought of this in the long term, but I can see the strategy. Anything to keep in power: "Forget that any tax increase is bad economic policy (especially in this economy), it's also a trap. The damage the passing of this tax increase would do to Republicans with their base is the primary motivation behind what Obama and the media are up to. Raising tax rates would almost certainly suppress Republican turnout in the 2014 midterms. As a result, Democrats would make gains and possibl ...
