This is for a government job.

Salary rates will be determined by degree:

Substitute Teacher Bachelor Degree = $10.63 per hour

Training Instructor High School Diploma or GED = $9.38 per hour

yep you read that right, you are required to have 4 years of education for a little over $1 an hour more. Has the whole world gone mad??

It's a substitute teaching job, aka entry level teaching. It's what newbie teachers take so they can get experience AND THEN land a permanent teaching job. Some new grads are lucky and get a position straight out of school, but this doesn't always happen. In every career, a person needs to start somewhere, and that's never at the top of the food chain. One should never look at an entry level job as their permanent career position, which is where I think you're getting stuck.

The announcement ended yesterday so I can't post a link, but there was also an opening for a Child Youth Services attendant. Basically it was someone who comes in and watches the teenagers at the center on post during the after school program, before school, etc. Wha I call a babysitter. Pay was $13/hour. Same army instillation. Now, you tell me why they pay the person with a 4 year degree $10/hour and the person with 0 education $13. Because they can. They know the position will have more applicants because there are so many out of work teachers or want to be teachers who need this on their resume. "Babysitters?" not so much. Like you said, it's just like they do the new MT's. Not right at all.

College instructors don't get paid much better. The pay scale at our community college gives someone with a bachelor's degree (which is what most coding and HIM instructors have) $250 per credit hour to teach an entire course. If the course is 1 credit hour, which means it meets in person 1 hour a week for a semester, you get a whopping $250 for the whole thing. If it is a 3-hour, like a coding or A&P class would be, you get $750.

You have to write lectures and teaching materials, and tests, grade homework and exams, answer questions and emails, give personal explanations, and have office hours and discussion sessions. Not to mention faculty meetings and activities. That means you aren't just there 1 hour or 3 hours a week.

When you work this out, you can see why many college instructors are so poor and why they are so unavailable. They use canned course material done by publishing houses because they just aren't going to take the time to do anything themselves.

hrm. I go to a community college and all 4 of my instructors are - really nice and always available for questions

but then again the subs here do not have to be college graduates or even have teaching degrees. One county over pays much better at about $15/hour (again do not need credentials, just need to pass the drug test, background check, etc, which is very thorough)....if I could deal with it I would do it. All depends on where you live and the richness of the county.

If you've gotten a new credit card recently, it may have an RFID chip embedded in it. It will have ))))) printed on it. I think Chase cards are using it, but others will follow. These cards can be scanned by anyone with a scanner and get your information. I recently started helping an elderly friend keep up with his bills. He has no computer and prefers mailing checks. It will cost almost $50 bucks for a refill packet of, I believe, 150 checks from his bank. Has anyone used a check-printing service that charges less? I have seen ads for these services but since they will get his bank acct info, I am being extremely careful.
