Have you ever used a Chiropractor

Posted: Jan 20, 2015

I have a pinched nerve, arthritis, spinal stenosis, in the very lowest part of my spine and I'm considering going to visit a guy who is a chiropractor/physical therapist. If you are familiar with chiropractors do you think he could help relieve my pain? I'm trying to avoid the spinal shots if I can since they offer no guarantee.

I went to one for several months after an accident. Sometimes it helped, sometimes not. All in all, will never go to another one. I've never had spinal shots but did have shots in my shoulder. Those were pretty good for awhile, took pain away for months at a time. Ended up having surgery after shots quit working. I've had physical therapy for shoulder & knee, & that's worth every minute & every dime.

Yes... I have gone to a chiropractor... - JOttS

also after an accident. The treatment I received was very good, and helped me a lot. Treatment depends on what kind of injury or problem and how good the chiropractor. In any event, it's worth a try. JOS

I am so glad you said PT - not a quick fix

I have seen so many friends and family "injure" their backs, knees, etc. They go to chiropractor or go get a shot and are better until they do it again, or the shot wears off. Then it is just a repeat cycle.

Gentle core strengthening exercises and a good diet, rinse, repeat. It seems to cure almost everything.

Going to chiropractor - a few times

I have trouble with my lower back when I do too much lifting. Sometimes it straightens out after a week of limiting movement, other times it doesn't. I go to a local chiropractor and he works on my lower back - I don't know what he does, but it works, IF I go home and don't reinjure it.
If the chiropractor tries to set up weekly or monthly "maintenance" appointments, don't fall for that. A good chiropractor will tell you to come back if it isn't better - only once out of a dozen or so visits in the last 20 years has my chiropractor told me that he wanted me to come back in 2 days for another treatment - and I did - and then I was done.

No, I don't trust them. Some people I know have - had a good result, but I am a skeptic.

It worries me that someone who is NOT a medical doctor is dealing with delicate parts like spines, necks, and spinal cords.

Anyone ever heard of someone being seriously injured by a chiropractor? Friend is paralyzed on one side after having something done by a chiropractor and immediately felt a "zing" down his spine and then could not walk.  I am wondering if he was injured or this is a coincidence.  Thought I would ask here to see if anyone had ever done a report on a person damaged dramatically by chiropractic.   ...
