anyone shopped at an IKEA store?

Posted: Mar 2, 2012

If so, what was it like.  None close enough for me to drive to.

All the time. It's about a 35 minute drive for me. - Olive

Best time is when they first open or any time in the middle of the week. Never go on weekends. It gets packed and the checkout lines are endless. Within the last week I bought three end tables, a desk and a coordinating drawer assembly. You do have to assemble most products and the instructions do not have words, pictures only. Assembly can take a good bit of time. The top floor is divided up into sections with room settings, kitchen, bedroom, office, living room. Really fun to walk through. The lower floor is where you buy the merchandise and it has all of the loose items, lamps, comforters, sheets, glassware. It is a fun place to spend a few hours dreaming and planning.

They have great little desk lamps with a small base that doesn't take up a huge amount of room on my desk - really cheap. I've also bought a kitchen table and chairs and a couple cabinets for the kitchen. 'Course you have to put everything together.

They also have some interesting food.

The only problem is, is that it's extremely complicated, and you can get really lost very easily. You see something you like, walk away, and then it takes another 10 minutes to find it again!

The closest to me is about 2 hours but I really have a great time there. Be sure you know someone who is handy with a screwdriver because everything comes in a box with stick-drawing instructions. The cafeteria is very reasonable.

I bought some bookcases, some floor lamps and 2 nightstands there for unbelievable prices.

I joke that my house is an advertisement for Ikea - when we worked overseas we bought a lot of their furniture. Their stuff has lasted well (through a move back to North America, several years ago, and with 3 "not-so-easy-on-the-furniture" boys). Unfortunately, the nearest Ikea is a flight away; otherwise I'd be there again! (and again, and again...:)

We have one about an hour from here - sm - XXX

I also had one near me (again 1 hour) when I lived in PA. Went there back in July and took my 2 kids. My oldest daughter hates shopping, but boy did she love Ikea, keeps begging me to take her back. (found a loft bed she loved, but she already has a full/twin bunk combo from Cargo so she is out of luck). Got them both new comforters/duvet comfortors on that trip (I was looking at bookcases). We went back in Nov. as I wanted a bookcase and a new bed comfortor and a duvet cover. It is a lot of fun just to meander thru there.

If you are ever near one check them out.

How Do You Store VegetablesMar 20, 2010
I am fed up with throwing away vegetables that have gone bad too soon after I buy them.  Everytime I throw something away I see my hard earned dollars going into the bin.  I think I may be storing them wrong.  I just leave them in the bags I put them in at the market.  Brocoli and lettuce are usually the first two to go.  How do you store vegetables?  Does anyone have a secret for keeping them fresher longer?  Forget those 2 vegetable bins at the bottom... afte ...

I Shudder To Think What's In Store Before Obama'sNov 22, 2015
I actually originally voted for Obama, but had reservations even then about his loyality to America, with his questionable birth place and connection to Reverend Wright.  He seemed like a nice, well-meaning person though, and Oprah endorsed him, so I took a chance.  Now, I'm very worried.  His allegiance seems anti America and pro Muslim/Islam/ISIS.  I've also considered that maybe he's stuck in the middle, under a pressure from both sides, and is trying to app ...

yesterday and glancing at the magazines, I realized something.  The O's are just like the Kardashians.  They came from nowhere, never did anything worthwhile to get them in the spotlight, and yet they are and making tons of money - and we are the dupes making that possible.  I never thought of this before.  ...

Name Brand *OR* Store Brand?Jun 14, 2010
I'm making out my very long list for Grocery Shopping and started thinking about various products for which I simply must have the Name Brand.  I always buy French's Mustard, Heinz Ketchup, Hellman's Mayo and Vlassic Sweet Relish. I buy Ajax Dish Soap and Bounty Paper Towels.  I'd never purchase Store Brand Dish or Dishwasher Soap.  However, I'll buy Store Brand Toilet Paper and Paper Plates. What are your "Must Haves" when it comes to Grocery ...
