Turning 60

Posted: Aug 8, 2015

I just turned 60 and I don't know how to deal with it. I don't feel that old. Just wondering if other women feel the same way.

I have you by several years and loving - life

I was just thinking about this summer. It has been fabulous and just enjoying life. I have no problem with the years. What other choice do you have? I look forward to going places, doing things, am always just thinking of my friends to meet up with, have lunch together, enjoy my great life with my husband. Life goes by fast but I try to make so much out of it. I don't feel my age, most don't think I am as old as I really am and the years can pile up, no problem here.

I don't know that I agree completely that - 60 is the new 40, but

I think the secret to aging gracefully is doing some simple maintenance... exercise, eat right, avoid toxins and toxic situations, keep your brain active with reading and learning and fun stuff (TV like alcohol should be used very sparingly).

I am 62 and feel most days like I have a ways to go before I start to feel really old. What really drags me down is still having to do this mind numbing ME work, because sitting and staring at a computer all day seems very unhealthy.

Also I try not to look in the mirror too often, because that turkey neck and eye baggage is a real bummer, and I know I'll never be able to afford to have it fixed! LOL!

My grandmother always said she didnt want to live to be older than 60 - she turns 75 Monday

and I believe she is happier than ever. She cares for my 1-year old niece when my brother and SIL work. She is mentally sharp and active. I do believe these are the best years of her life. If you can get over your slump I think they can be yours too!

Most of what you believe about age comes from what you were exposed to as a child ... the stereotypes on TV, what you saw in relatives, etc., when people were lucky to be barely alive at 60.

Before 1850, life expectancy was about 35 years. In 1950, it was only 57 years for white males and 45 for black. That improved to 76 and 71 in 2010, when the life expectancy for women was 81.

I suggest that you recognize that your beliefs may be outdated, that holding onto them may be very unwise, and that you have no obligation to live according to the age expectations of the 1950's universe.

There is no need to focus on your age. It is a meaningless concept for most purposes. I suggest you ignore it.

I don't find too much wrong with - mt

the 1950s TV universe!

Disagree with the statement on people retiring - at age 40 back in the days

My father worked on the atom bomb in Tennessee and this year marks the 70th anniversary of it being dropped on Japan, so no young bird here. I know of no one in my family that quit work early. As a young child I saw most all in my family working including the females back in a time when most women stayed home caring for the kids and being Hannah housewife. My aunts, grandmother, mother all worked out of the home. I don't know what years you are talking about, the 20s, 30s maybe and I don't think most of us were growing up then.

You answered your own question - You just turned 60

How did you "deal with" turning 20? Or 35? You reach a certain age, so you're that age.

there are cars coming at you from the left and they finally clear but then there are cars coming from the right turning into the parking lot and you can't move until THEY clear but once they do, there are now cars coming from the left again and on and on.  This happened to me last night and the jerk behind me actually started honking at me.  What the heck was I suppose to do?  Drive into traffic so he/she could get home sooner?  It's just frustrating and it's ...

Tina Turner Turning In Her U.S. CitizenshipJan 26, 2013
Does the below paragraph mean that any "former" American who becomes a citizen of another country will STILL have to pay taxes to the U.S. government? How does that work?????  Are they saying this to scare her or is the government now going to start taxing every former American who renounced their citizenship? BTW, in reading another article on the same subject, the top tax rate in Switzerland is 22.4%.  "But if the 73-year-old singer is making the move to cut her tax bills, she ...

Husbands Best Friends Son Is Turning 2. We Need Gift Ideas. Jun 04, 2011
This friends family has always treated my husband like one of their own, so it is sort of like an uncle finding a gift for his nephew.  It has been 30 years since we had a 2 year old so we are feeling challenged about what to get.  This is family #2 for the dad and mom who are ages 51 and 49 and both have children out of college.  He is an only child of two avid shopaholics, so needless to say he has been indulged and spoiled since day one.  What do you get for the ...
