For those of you that have your nails done at a salon, Is your manicurists American?
All the salons in my area & surrounding areas seem to be Korean. Now I don't have a problem with that except for the fact that most don't speak English. Whatever happened to Americans doing nails. It's really hard to communicate when you aren't speaking the same language.
;Full service salons and spas are a safer bet as far as following standards of hygiene, sterilization of tools and equipment, etc.... also more likely that the technicians will be licensed by a credentialing and/or governing body.
These storefront, drive-thru type shops skimp on things like sterilizing tools, foot baths, etc., between customers. They might do it once, at the end of the day. Their technicians are often not licensed by any credentialing body and/or a Board of Health. The owner might be, that's how the shop gets opened. They don't have to show certification in their "craft," or certification of employees, to get a business operating license, and if/when they are busted by the Health Dept. or Licensing Board, they just close up shop and move down the street or across town under a different name.
If you do patronize one of these shops, check on the wall behind each station and see if each technician has their own individual certification/license issued by a school or licensing board and/or Health Dept. They are required by law to have them, just like your hairdresser or cosmetician does.
