Is it cheaper to get pants altered or buy news ones

I've lost a lot of weight. I have pants that are sizes 16 and 18 (nice, new pants), but I've lost a lot of weight and they just hang off me. Is it worth it to get them altered or do you think new pants are comparable in pricing to alteration

The cost was way over $50.00 for taking up on the sides, not that much. I never returned. Probably would come out better just buying some new.

Alterations are not cheap and can come out awful. Short of taking the garment apart and recutting it, most alterations are a mess. Especially pants.

Hems on pants, ok. Hems and side seams on dresses, fine. Cutting down pants from 18 or 16 to 14? Nope. That is far enough for the fly zipper to be too long or the waistband to need to be completely removed, or the pockets to "migrate" to weird places.

If the pants are really good brands, they are built to BE altered. You don't have to take the waistband off. They might not come hemmed at all. Even so, for big alterations, you would do better to sell them on consignment and buy new ones. If they are so-so, give them to a shelter and get new ones.

I can alter clothes. Voice of experience here. It is usually not worth it.

i was just given a bag of designer clothes and was curious about the same thing. Thank you. I'll take the dress in, because you said side seams. But there is 1 pair of silk pants that I adore. They hang low in the crouch area though, what do you think ?

I bought them for years - but they don't make them anymore - and Lee casual pants are just not the same - has anybody found anything comparable to the Riders by Lee that was sold at Walmart and K-mart? The Lee brand doesn't fit the same and the black ones I bought are stiff and stuff clings to them so they never look nice. ...
