Has anyone grown canteloupes or honeydews?

I have a beautiful canteloupe (I think) growing in my front yard, a volunteer, apparently from some of the compost dirt we have been spreading around. Trouble is, I have no idea how to tell if it is ripe. It is really big and healthy looking, but I don't want to pick it before its time. Thanks!

when there is no green left on the surface of the cantalope (not necissarily the vein structure that covers it, but the underneath area) and when it will easily fall of the vine when very lightly touched. It should have a sweet smell at the stem once it is picked. If it gets picked too early, you can set on counter in kitchen to ripen more. Most of the canteloupes I get in the store, I have to leave on the counter to ripen all the way before putting in the fridge to chill then eat. Enjoy!

The kids are ages 8, 10, 11 and 13. I want to go to the, believe it is called City Walk (?) and would like anyone who might live there or know the city some information on a nice place to eat, not the most expensive but not McDonald's either. got fined $685.00, for what I have yet to find out. She drinks too much and she smokes marijuana. i have tried repeatedly to talk with her about the effects of heavy drinking on the body but she is not listening.
