H1N1 reactions

Posted: Dec 14, 2009

Does anyone know of someone who got the H1N1 vaccine and had a serious reaction to it?  A few months ago, our school sent home a form for parents to fill out if they wanted their child to receive the H1N1 vaccine through the school if/when they got the vaccine.  At the time, I decided to have them get it.  I filled out the form and sent it in, but I've been thinking a lot about it since then.  There have been more reports of serious reactions to it, including some pretty serious lifelong reactions.  Everyone I know that has received it has had no problem, but I'm still concerned about giving it to my kids.  I also worry about them not getting the vaccine and then contracting the flu.  I worry whether or not the flu would run a normal course or turn into something worse.

My kids are pretty healthy save for some asthma issues with bronchitis during the winter months.  My one child has had a drug reactions to amoxicillin (hives), the rubella vaccine (he got what the ped thought was a mild case of the German measles) and most recently Trileptal (hives again).  After the last scare with Trileptal last month, I really began to rethink this vaccine especially for him.

I'm going to call my ped today and see what he thinks, but I was just curious if anyone else knows of someone who had a serious reaction to this vaccine.

I got mine, and all of my children (5) got theirs, and none of us had any kind of reaction to it. One of my kids, she's 8, has kidney problems and is allergic to several meds and shellfish and iodine, and it didn't bother her at all. In fact, those that are more prone to illnesses, especially breathing difficulties, should get it! It's a personal decision that you will have to make. I believe I made the right one for my family. It's not good to take everyone's word on it. My dad, for instance, signed the form and had my 5-year-old sister vaccinated. It was the nasal spray; however, when I told him I was taking my kids, his grandkids, to get the shot, he blew a gasket and went on and on about how dangerous he heard it was. My kid who is allergic to some meds and has kidney problems can't get the nasal spray because it is a "live" virus and has to get the vaccine. I believe he based his decision on the fact that I was running him around that day, and he did not want to wait while we went inside and got the vaccine and, therefore, tried to scare me into not getting it, even though he felt his youngest child was good enough to get it. What I'm getting at is that people will have different reasons for their opinion and sometimes they won't necessarily be based on any kind of fact.

I wouldn't let my children get it.. - Angel

I'm not giving it to my kids, BECAUSE of the adverse reactions that I have heard of. BUT.....my son already got the H1N1 virus and it wasn't bad for him. He is 9 years old and he had a fever for five days straight....no break in the fever, even with alternating Tylenol/Motrin. He didn't feel very bad though, considering and none of our other family members got it, and I have a 6-year-old daughter as well....we just practiced good handwashing. A friend of mine's son got it as well, he is 6 and he had it for about a week as well and none of their other family members got it either.

The hype is there for a reason...sm - GGG

The gullible and the paranoid will fall for it. Flu is flu. It's been around for a looooong time and if you keep your immune system healthy, you can fight off most illnesses/diseases. Drugs and vaccines only serve to make it weaker. Today people want a "quick fix" after they've taken years to weaken their immune systems. You couldn't pay me to take the vaccine. I'll take the flu any day. ;-)

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory?id=9164033 I have read a "few" reports that this H1N1 flu was a conspiracy (lab made) which would then cause to give the vaccine in order to try and kill as many people as possible because we do not need an over populated world and it would then try and cause a one world order.    Also read reports where the flu is mutating.  Tamiflu resistant in some patients and Ukraine and Iowa are having problems where they are seeing patients with bla ...
