Destin vs Myrtle Beach for July 4?

We are wanting to drive and spend a long weekend there. We love the beach, but we have small children and would like to find somewhere that might have a children's pool/waterpark type play area as well.

Jeckyl Island, Georgia has a beach and a fun water park, it's not very expensive and they have a carnival and fireworks on the beach for the 4th.

Why don't you consider camping at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach? Fantastic campground with lots for the kiddies to do. We are senior citizens and love it there. It is right on the beach with a fantastic water park type pool area.

I live 45 miles north of Destin. There is a water park and a small amusement park area, mini golf for kids and a lot of the condos and motels have kiddie pools. There will also be fireworks off the Gulf on the 4th of July. This area is beautiful with white sand and emerald green water, but usually traffic is congested at this time of the year.

After living in SW Florida for some time, I have decided to visit South Beach Miami on my own. Cannot work out schedule with any friends. It will be a day trip for me - about 2-hour drive each way.
