has nothing to do with pedophilia being classified as a sexual orientation. The act specifically states that it is the presiding judge's decision whether a person has to register as a sex offender for life in CA when found guilty of a statutory offense.

If your 18 y/o son has consensual relations with his 17 y/o girlfriend, this is considered statutory and law would determine that he register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. I don't think any judge would condemn this young man to a lifetime of shame.

Now, there are age restrictions here and it has to be consensual. Anything else is rape and punishable by imprisonment AND registering as a sex offender for life. If a 25 y/o man has consensual relations with a 15 y/o girl, that would also be a statutory offence, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that any judge would have this idiot register as a sex offender. Anything under and including age 14, consensual or not, is a felony. Any age difference over 10 years is a felony.

I hope this helps clear up the confusion the headline has caused. As for Epstein, my gawd may that man burn in hell.
