I apologize for not being more compassionate, but to believe that life on the streets alone would be some big adventure, you were very naive. People do it, but sometimes it’s retired people with money who live in motor homes or have van conversions and travel from town to town. From what I can piece together of your story, you abandoned everything and took off with no idea of how you were going to support yourself other than to expect strangers to send you money when you ran out. A lot of people are single without children, myself among them, and it has nothing to do with being employable. I lost a very good on site MT job years ago but was rehired in another area of health information management and there are stable jobs you could do as well that don’t involve driving and might provide benefits. Car repairs and being overdrawn at the bank are a way of life more most of us. Money doesn’t grow on trees and we don’t have a network of people to send us money when we spend ours or the paycheck doesn’t stretch quite far enough. I offered you a lot of suggestions but there was always a reason why you couldn’t do them. You could have gotten into a worker retraining program or drawn unemployment for a while, and social services would help you find some shelter, they are not just there to gather information on you. There are food banks and you would have qualified for food stamps or welfare. You raised more money from GFM than most of us had in the bank. My advice now is to sell that van; $1300 in repairs is more than it is worth. I just happened to read your last post at a bad time. I recently fell and fractured my right humerus and am on medical leave, it may affect my ability to work in the future. I’m getting close to retirement and worried about having enough money. I’m alone and have challenges bathing, dressing and getting to my doctor appointments. Friends help when they can, but I’m on my own a lot. Don’t put a guilt trip on others who are struggling, believe it or not there are people less fortunate than you.
