meetings, etc. I am the one who posted above about her mother being a retired teacher. My father was a principal and a teacher before that. I lived with it day and night. The region I live in now is far from the standards that I grew up with in the Midwest. I am grateful for my college education and listening to my parents's concepts toward teaching, because I used all of to continue teaching my child at home for what he didn't understand at school. I, too, put in a lot of extra hours as a teacher but didn't get paid for it (all the while transcribing to earn a living). I was a bit miffed at having to buy school supplies every year and all the Kleenex, crayons and glue were pooled to cover those immigrants who couldn't seem to bring a tissue in their pocket during cold season or afford their own box of colored pencils. A lot of the blame should go to the restrictions placed on these poor teachers by their respective States and the stupid excessive testing the kids had to endure. My child was super stressed by the time high school graduation arrived. Everything needs an overhaul in this country!
