I live in a "rich" county in which some of the school taxes are distributed to smaller rural school systems. My city is small, but the teachers are paid quite well and most in the high school have master's degrees. My mother is a retired teach in the Midwest. She has a Master's and exited earning $60,000. When they went on strike, it was for teacher salaries and benefits; nothing else.

Materials and supplies are for the schools to purchase based on what the State education system sets up for the annual curriculum. That is why a huge chunk of my property tax goes to the school system.

I don't know how it works for other states.
