This is NOT about teacher pay!! Funds for education have been misappropriate by our Governor and legislators for YEARS!! This is about getting our STUDENTS the education they deserve - a competitive education with the rest of the nation. History books that are 30 years old and falling apart - NOT ACCEPTABLE!! A classroom full of 38 first graders to ONE TEACHER - NOT ACCEPTABLE!! Seating in said classroom for 24 students instead of the full 38 - NOT ACCEPTABLE!! If you aren't in Oklahoma, not a teacher in Oklahoma, or don't have children who go to school in Oklahoma and you're just watching the news from afar - you have ZERO idea of what we are TRULY standing up for - IT'S FOR OUR CHILDREN!! I work part-time as an MT and full-time as a teacher. I've been at the Capitol all week and it has been AMAZING!! Teachers from Yukon, Oklahoma took an 18-mile walk to the Capitol today - NOT ABOUT A PAY RAISE!! And I will tell you right now, that $45,000 figure is BULLSHIT. I'm in my 4th year and make $32,000 a year, which includes health insurance, retirement, etc. My TAKE HOME pay as a full-time teacher is literally $900 every two weeks - and I use about $100 every paycheck to provide things for my classroom. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stop making comments about how much money we make and we should be grateful. You guys come on here constantly and gripe about your pay rate, yet you aren't molding the minds of our future. You don't have hundreds of children's lives in your hands every day trying to keep them safe from any kind of harm. We LOVE OUR STUDENTS like they are our own children. Please educate yourselves on this before you pass judgment.
