Where is the outrage on this

Posted: Sep 6, 2011

Where is the outrage, or do most feel this is okay to promote this violence.  If you don't like any of them, fine, we get it.  I'm not wild about any of them myself.  Don't watch and didn't vote for them, but where do we draw the line.  I'm sure if the names were reverse with Obama, Biden and Chris Matthews all he!! would break lose and republicans would be accused of inciting violence.  So where is it here?  I'll be interested to read the responses.

I think it's sad that this is where our country has gone - that you can now virtually kill specific politicians and cable news show hosts that you don't like/agree with.

"New Tone indeed..." So much for civility.

It May Never Change - ButAlwaysRemindThem

There has been a lot of political hate on both sides in this country for a long time. I don't know how anyone expects anything to get done when we as a country can't get along. We're supposed to come together as Americans and we're so wrapped up in our own interests that we can't even do that.

violent video games - sefrost53

Maybe this game idea is promoted by teabaggers themselves to garner martyristic sympathy and anger against the Dems. I've been reading this all over FB, so it's working.

I agree - sm

So much of the T-party movement has been paid astroturfing, I would not put it past them to trump this up themselves. They sure seem to want to publicize some disgusting web sites. Sure-fire bait to get them all riled up. Where was the outrage about the Glock raffle in Gifford's district?--not from the T-party.

So, if a movie came out about the hanging death of Obama (kinda like the one about Bush, except he was shot), people could reasonably say it was created by the DNC to make everyone else look like racists?

The rules are always different for the "other side." - hmmm

That is why Obama didn't denounce Jimmy Hoffa's comments about "taking the SOBs [tea party] out," but he was quick to hold the "Beer Summit" when someone cried racism.

It's all that "civility" that is supposed to apply to the conservatives, but the liberals get a pass.

Get used to it.

So I see you agree with promoting violence - as long as its not your side - Nice!

Its sick and no, the tea party is not asking people to kill people in their own party. SICK MINDS!!!! People who created this should deal with the consequence. You evidently approve of it. As long as it's not anyone in your favorite party.

Thanks for clarifying that.

People - this is sick and wrong and if you agree with it it's sick and wrong. People need to have their heads examined if they actually believe that people in the tea party or republican party are asking the public to kill them.

SICK SICK SICK and I'm so disgusted to know there are people who think like this.

Think I'll go throw up now.

It's not a matter of promoting violence - JS

but rather providing a motive. And that motive wasn't necessarily plucked out of thin air, but rather based on prior instances such as the Punked-style phone call made to Gov. Walker where HE stated that he entertained the idea of sending in people posing as union prosters to act badly, look badly to the public, and therefore gain support for himself/GOP. You really can't blame someone for thinking that that tactic may have been employed here, and in today's political climate, pretty much any bad behavior is possible.

However, I didn't take note of the site, but I did come across an article where the developer of the game claimed he did this "on his own" or "in his spare time" or something along those lines. And, just so everyone feels better, there is also another game that I saw on the site where you can see Hillary Clinton in a Mortal Kombat style game where you can beat her up and chop her head off, I'm sure.

Not trying to argue... just trying to help you kick that urge to throw up. It sounds like just 1 moron creating thoroughly stupid stuff.
Thank you for your reply - as long as its not your side - Nice!

I'm a bit more calm now and your reply was good.

Actually I really don't care what goes on in politics whether it's the republicans being nasty to democrats or vice versa. There is no room in this country for video games promoting violence towards another politician. We see too many nut bags out there running around (like the guy who shot Gabby Gifford in the head). This incites the mindless to cause violence against them. I wouldn't like it if it was using Obama and I don't like it when it's using people from the tea party.

Thanks for your reply.

Maybe it’s an alternative to those bored with - Moslem virtual shoot ’em ups

Muslim Massacre: A Game of Modern Religious Genocide (where the good, righteous western white hats blow the bad, evil terrorist Muslims around every corner to smithereens). Game creator Eric Vaughn initially claimed is critical commentary on US foreign policy. In the aftermath of the ensuing controversy upon its release, Vaughn’s true colors emerged in his alleged apology when he advised Muslims that they need to "suck it down and stop getting offended by everything," and “if they learnt to just ignore people, things would be better.” He further excused himself by declaring his depiction of Muslims was no more negative than television news, adding that he didn't feel that children would be affected, and that parents were responsible for instilling positive attitudes in their children. Sounds like one of those bootstrap, rugged individualist, hands-off-government-eliminating anarchists to me.

Or Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which takes place in multiple unnamed Middle Eastern countries and Muslim Russian provinces, focuses on a radical Muslim assassin, an ultranational civil war, British and US coalition troops and a wide range of political scenarios that depict the West=good-Muslim=enemy stereotype ad nauseum, with similar smithereens components. Unlike Vaughn’s outcome, this one won critical acclaim among videoland afficionados. Naturally there is a long list of other similar West-on-Muslim violent video games, many of which also won awards.

Or Hezbollah video games that target Israelis
Or Israeli video games that target Hesbollah
Or Chinese video games that target US troops
Or video games that target new army recruits
Or video games that…..well, you get the idea.

Video games are not child’s play anymore and have been political for quite some time. Violent video games are big money makers. Isn’t this simply capitalism alive and well and prospering in the US and isn’t their content protected by first amendment rights? The US does not ban or censor video games, at least not yet, though Congress has made some noise about looking into it now that the political arenas have become so heavily incorporated into the myriad of violent video games. Seems that the TP would go to the mat to protect those principles. Can't have any of that guvment regulation, so what's an ultrapatriot to do?

Bad taste? You bet? Shocking? Not really, considering the culture wars and current state of political rhetoric, not to mention an insatiable appetite for ever-escalating degrees of sensationalism promoted in the entertainment and news broadcasting media. Violent entertainment has not been an oxymoronic concept for decades. Somehow, I don’t think boycotting sponsors is the answer, though those offended are certainly entitled to try. I just think this is symptomatic of a much, much bigger problem than TP targets caught up in the crosshairs of the latest ill-advised videographer’s imagination run amok. Question: Does the “lone wolf” club restrict its membership exclusively to tea partiers, or does it apply in equal measure to their political foes as well?

Something tells me the above examples failed to arouse the TP ire over these past years and years of violent video game production and monetary success. I think these accusations of double standards, it’s okay, the rules are always different for the other side, etc are a tad overblown, since what THAT part of the equation boils down to is simple human nature. When an individual is attacked, they are hard-wired to defend themselves. Same applies to political groups, but other than boycotting sponsors, I would be curious to learn what those offended think should happen to the creator of Teaparty Zombies Must Die. Censorship? Banishment? Get a rope and string him up? What?
