July 2. Egyptian Coptic Christian and naturalized US citizen Nakoula (AKA Sam Bacile), uploaded English version of “Innocence of Muslims” to You Tube. The film flopped in theaters and lay essentially dormant until early September. Coincidentally, Egyptian elections were in full swing with the Muslim Brotherhood strong in the polls. Stateside, Rep Michelle Bachman, recently failed GOP primary drop-out, was launching her bat-crazy Huma Abedin/Muslim Brotherhood conspiracy theory with the help of four other bat-crazy GOP co-conspirators, Louis Gohmert, Lynn Westmoreland, Trent Franks and Thomas Looney….whoops, I mean Rooney. The witch hunt was summarily denounced by John McCain and other horrified party bystanders. The conspiracy theory was expansive via guilt-by-association ties between Abedin and SOS Clinton, who faced angry protesters on her arrival in Cairo in July. Cheers, jubilation and victory declarations popped up in all corners of the cons blogosphere.
September 2. Arabic translation of the film’s trailer, a distilled compilation of it’s most offensive anti-Muslim scenes and scripts (some of which were obvious voice-overs) was posted to the Sam Bacile You Tube account. To say this video smacks of deliberate hate propaganda would be a gross understatement.
September 10. Bastor Terry Jones announces promotion of the film as part of his International Judge Muhammed Day, scheduled for September 11. The much reviled TJ made a name for himself by creating the Dove World Outreach Center Quran burning controversy (see link #1) back in 2010, which sparked international outrage, officially expressed by local (FL), national and international officials in countries such as Canada, Cuba, France, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Lebanon, Pakistan, Palestine, the US, Vatican City, along with NATO, the Organization of the Islamic Conference and the UN. Though he backed down (that year), copycat Christian haters proceeded to desecrate the Quran nationwide. The next year, on the 9/11 10th anniversary, Bastor Jones did sit in judgment of the Quran, then burned it, resulting in the 2011 Mazar-i-Sharif attack (link #2), which killed at least 14 and injured 20 more, and street protests broke out across the globe. Harbinger history.
That happened one year ago, not nearly enough time for extremists to have “moved past” marking it’s anniversary, a custom they faithfully observe for much less significant events, expecially since numerous protest "martyrs" lost their lives in 2011, along with UN staff and Nepalese security guards stationed in Afghanistan. IMO, this precedent-setting incident has changed the face of 9/11 anniversaries for years to come….in the Moslem world….judging from what we now see evolving there today.
Sept 11, 6 PM. Bastor Terry Jones’s advertised Judgment of Muhammed commences stateside.
Sept 11, 7:15 PM, within 1 hours and 15 minutes of said judgment, Reuters tweets the first announcement of the DEATH of an American US Embassy staff member.
Earlier today, Fox/Breitbart/CNN reports were posted about advanced warning Jamal Mabrouk, member of the Libyan security forces, gave to US DIPLOMATS in Benghazi. The thread essentially bit the dust after austute replies pointed out that our diplomats and their staff, were well aware of the risks of their missions and made their own decisions regarding their personal security (not the president). Missing from the article citations were the temporal correlations between the emergence of the Arabic video trailer translation (Sept 2) and the subsequent increased extremist chatter (interim) that evidently alarmed Mabrouk enough to call the meeting (Sept 8). I also think it is quite stunning to realize how the protest crowds swelled and the pitch of their behavior escalated throughout the day, to culminate in the death of the embassy staff member within a little over an hour of the Terry Jones call to judgment. I have a really hard time believing that is mere coincidence.
IMO, the direction the cons media and pols are trying to take, as was evident all over today’s Sunday morning talk shows, to FURTHER POLITICIZE these events, polarize American voters and pit us all against each other, is destined to be an essential contributing factor to the problem, NOT its solution. We now find ourselves with a SECOND deadly 9/11 anniversary for Moslem extremists to mark in 2013. Raise your hands if you think continued inaction on the part of the GOP leadership to reign in its own extreme factions and their hate speech and blame shifting to President Obama in the name of free speech and winning an election is going to help prevent a recurrence next year. Anyone?
