A 9/11 interactive timeline

Posted: Sep 11, 2013

I was looking around this morning for something to post on the anniversary of 9/11, to honor those who died and were injured, and the loved ones they left behind. I didn't exactly find what I was looking for, but this timeline is very interesting, so I thought I'd share this.

I hope everyone finds a little peace in themselves today where they can, and I hope we can be a little nicer to each other today. Of course, not perfectly nice--but a little nicer.  ;)

I love our beautiful country, and I look forward to what the future brings for us all.

That I am a little bit surprised about the way Syria, the US and Russia have worked together in the last week. I'm relieved these 3 leaders worked to arrive to a diplomatic solution to a terrible situation. I still feel Assad should be arrested and tried for his crimes. But I am happy he's agreed to surrender his weapons. I wish all conflicts ended this way.

I also believe that because of this resolution, we are not at an increased risk of terror attack on this day. If we had imminent plans to strike Syria, I think this day would feel very, very different than it does.

I don't like to "celebrate" such a horrible tragedy. I don't like the "anniversary remembrance" thing.

Every day since it happened it is always a reminder of what happened. I think celebrating this every year is not an "honor" to the people who died on that day. Last week I was watching yet more video that I had not seen of that day. This time such up close and heart breaking footage of the fate of some of the people (if you know what I'm talking about - too horrible to write it). As I sat here watching I tried to imagine what was going through their minds. I just can't imagine.

Until the people who are responsible for this are held responsible for what they did I don't think the souls of the poor departed ones that died for no reason will never rest. I hope they are at peace. Horrible, horrible, horrible. I'm sorry to be a Debbie downer, I just really despite the "anniversary" thing. To me that says remember them on this day, but lets forget every other day in the year.

I understand what you are saying - sm

I don't think calling it a celebration is really appropriate. I haven't seen anyone mention "celebrate" anywhere. If I did, I would find it distasteful.

I do think honoring the people who were lost and their loved ones is perfectly fine though, especially on the day that it happened. I get why it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, but it doesn't leave one in mine. I think most of us are reminded of the tragedy many times during the year, but this is a day when everyone remembers it together.

I appreciate that you feelings come from a place of caring and deep sympathy. We all handle horrific events differently.

going about their normal business that morning when they died every day, or even every week, would be unhealthy and inappropriate. Just as spending every day remembering the 15,000 people murdered in this country last year alone would be emotionally crippling.

Being able to move on is healthy and necessary, and I hope for your own sake that you actually usually do forget this particular group, along with the rest of the many millions who have died during your lifetime.

Now, the few who refused to just run for their lives and turned back to help others, and the public workers who went up in those buildings knowing they might well die--they were heroes in the truest sense and we'll always admire them and honor their memories. But after a decade only now and then--when the subject comes up.
