...my husband goes to the parts store while I go to the grocery store so we don't have to take 2 different vehicles to town.....

The Obamas, along with alot of politicians, have no idea what reality is.....

My husband and I drive two different vehicles all over town. - sm

I love America where I am free to make my own decisions and drive however many vehicles I choose to whether anybody else likes it or not.

does it cost you - $228,000 an hour?

[ In Reply To ..]
I haven't figured it out lately, but I don't think it costs me that much per hour of driving - and I pay for mine myself....I don't expect the tax payers to pay for the gas and wear and tear on my vehicle.

...and does someone else pay for it? - nm

Why, yes. When I drive for charitable purposes, they actually do. - sm

I am a veteran doing a lot of charity work for veterans, and when I use my POV (privately owned vehicle) for that purpose, I am allowed to write off the cost of that expense on my taxes.

I don't quite understand why anyone would think the President of the United States, any President or First Lady, regardless of party affiliation, should have to pay their own travel expenses in the service of their country. How many people could afford to serve their country if they had to provide their own money to pay their expenses?

If I had to pay the flight expenses every time I was shipped overseas as a soldier, I'd have never been able to serve. If I had to pay for the tank I commanded, it would have cost me about 6.2 million dollars for the tank alone, which takes 3 gallons of fuel just to turn over the motor, and then it gets about 3-4 miles to the gallon. Adding in the air support, ground support, and crew costs, I'm now looking at tens of millions of dollars just to do my duty. One round of main gun ammunition is about $300, and that is one (1) round. You see, it's expensive to serve your country in a manner befitting. My uniform, my food, my housing, my transportation, etc., all paid for with taxpayers' dollars. These are all soldiers of different gender, party affiliation, faith, race, and sexual orientation, yet the taxpayers pick up the tab for all of us.

God Bless America for taking care of the people who serve her.
Its costs the taxpayer over $220,000 "AN HOUR" for you to do that? - Wow.

Enjoy those freedoms while you can. - sm

The Fuehrer and his faithful lockstep followers may soon be taking those freedoms away also. Truth.

Oh, that! Well, he better get busy with his alleged evil agenda. LOL - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
The last time I had any appreciable freedoms taken away, it was done by a Republican president, the so-called Patriot Act, and yes I know Obama extended it for another 4 years, but it took Congress to approve that.

The constitutional power of the President of the United States through executive order is limited, so the myth that Obama is somehow going to enact an evil agenda that takes away our freedoms kind of overlooks the fact that Congress would have to be in on it. Majority rules.

Come on. You had to know when you were posting - what a silly analogy this is..

You said: "Please don't insult our intelligence."

Who is "our"? Whoever they are, perhaps they could review the OP and find that I merely responded to the OP's post that already contained the analogy with which they have a problem. :)
I saw no insult. The insult was your post - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
First its not the same thing, which is so obvious.

Second, is the tax payers paying millions of dollars for you both driving separately.
First and foremost, the analogy was made by the OP. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I merely commented on the OP's analogy.

Second, nowhere in that post do I infer or even discuss in any way that taxpayers are paying for my driving.

I just basically said I love living in a free country, and I most definitely do. Not sure why anyone would find that post the least bit insulting.
Uh, yeah, sure okay. - whatever

We understand what the post was trying to do. We are not stupid and it's insulting to insinuate that you think we are.

Your post was insulting.

Were they attending the exact same events? - their schedules are important

[ In Reply To ..]
Ours are just not that important. He is the POTUS. Don't know exactly what they were doing out there and what would be next in schedule, but I can hear the outrage if POTUS were sitting in the green room at the Ellen show while FLOTUS promoted exercise. Maybe he should carry her bags too, just like our husband's when we shop on Rodeo Drive. I guess most of the time this isn't an issue as they go separate directions. BTW she did an excellent job.

He could have gone golfing while she was at Ellen's show - Truthhurts

It's ridiculous. They have no regard for the taxpayers or for saving the taxpayers any money.

They scream about climate change all the time, too, but it's hypocritical when they take separate flights all the time.

There is just no excuse for it.

BTW, I don't call the Ellen Degeneres show or - Truthhurts

the Jimmy Kimmel show important.

Maybe Ellen paid for the first lady's flight expenses? - nm

Orphaned children.... - Mary

[ In Reply To ..]
This is probably not at all the reason for their taking separate flights. However, I used to work for an MD who, when his family was going on vacation, would always fly separately from his wife. That way, if something happened to one of them, God willing, the other would live on to care for the children. It was a very sweet, thoughtful thing to do. Losing both parents in an accident does happen to many children. Just something to think about.

Married, Do You File Separate?Apr 06, 2013
I might write some more about this later on but just now am wondering about the above. I have been married over 10 years now but questioning about doing the above for this next year. Do You Think Merged Or Separate Finances Makes AJun 28, 2013
I was married for 16 years and we had a joint checking account.  It did not work.  I have been single for a long time, but may have a chance to try marriage again.  My mom always told me separate checking accounts made for a strong marriage.  I see that in my older sister.  I'm so independent now that I want some money, but with the way things are in the MT world, I'm always just a bad check away from disaster.  I am beginning to think it would be nice to ...

House Leaders Plan Separate House VoteMar 20, 2010
Democrats edged closer to finding 216 lawmakers to back a landmark health-care bill Saturday, as party leaders and White House officials were working on an executive order that they hope will win over a substantial number of antiabortion Democrats. The House Rules Committee continued its session on the third floor of the Capitol, where the panel is tasked with setting the terms of Sunday's floor debate. House leaders have decided to take a separate vote on the Senate version of the healt ...
