Of course, some people won't believe it because his press conference was on Fox news. I don't have details because I wasn't here when it started but he proposes 2 year tax cut across the board and 13 months unemployment benefit extension.

Did I miss something?? I did not think I stated anything cruel by stating he does not look too happy about much lately (although I did leave out the word LOOK in my previous post). I live in Maine so you are not telling me anything about the heating season. Are you referring that since I am unemployed I do not have stress??? Even with the extension of UE benefits it is not a cake walk!! Being on unemployment does not grant me heat assistance or food stamps.

This is insane. Obama, concentrate on the economy instead of your destructive HCR, which is going to HURT the economy. We need more jobs, not people on unemployment for 10 years!!

There are all kinds of statistics on this. Its very true. NOT being cruel, being realistic. You cant handle the truth, but I am not surprised. There should be a limit.. 1 year.. The Govt continually providing FOR the people eventually make them prisoners.

and put money away every chance we could. So, we have been able to make it so far. We like not living off the Govt, although we appreciated some help for a short time. I know people who would not care if they lived off the Govt and other taxpayers their whole lives. Its kind of sickening, really. Do they not have any pride or conscience? ...sad.

part is they admit that. I know others who were on it a few months and could not stand it, constantly looking for a job until they found one... and eventually did, usually within 6 months.

I have to turn in a work search log upon request every 5 weeks and if you do not forward the work search log your benefits are denied. At least that is how it works in Maine. You have to show proof you are actively seeking employment, which is the way it should be.

He has not been looking happy for quite some time. I do feel bad for him. The poor guys hair went white within the first six months (oh please don't anybody say that Bush's fault LOL). But I think the guy is in way over his head. I think he should have stayed as a senator and get more experience before trying to do this. I think a lot of people who are pulling his strings are the ones telling him what to do and he just doesn't have any choice. One thing I have to say is in the next election if Hillary runs against him I will vote for him again. I wish he'd go back to a senator. I liked him back then. Then he could enjoy time with his family and not grow old so fast.

You have to understand that he came in when the country was in shambles. I don't think ANY man/woman, democrat or republican, would have an easy time of trying to fix things when they are so bad. If you remember, George Bush looked real bad during the war and near the end of his term when everything was falling apart. Many presidents have looked bad and are stressed when they have a lot of crap going on in the country. You can say how bad of a job he is doing, but I certainly don't think too many people could have done much better with the state of the country.

Part of this package deal is extending unemployment and I know that is something most republicans are against.

Because the Republicans wanted the tax cuts without regard to cost or consequences - Be careful what you wish for.

I agree with Obama about the tax cuts. I think they should expire. I wasn't in favor of them when Bush started the cuts in the first place. It sucks that our economy is so bad right now and it won't do us many favors initially....but I think in the long run...it is the right thing to do.

As for the extended unemployment...I respectfully disagree with Obama on this one. It seems like such a contradiction to be against tax cuts and be for extended unemployment and vice versa. Both will cost us more money than we can afford right now. Also, it is my opinion that there are several people receiving unemployment who will just continue to receive unemployment as long as they can. If we don't show them an end to their unemployment benefits....some may simply continue to receive their unemployment check without really looking for a job. This is not true for all the unemployed...but I know of several people who are personally doing this and it disgusts me. Unemployment...just like welfare...was intended to help people get back on their feet....not a means to support one for extended periods of time.

There are at least two of us (see above) who have/had to prove that we are/were looking for work in order to receive benefits. The long term unemployed people I know have taken various temporary jobs as they have come up, and have been able to extend their benefits that way. I would imagine that if you live in a area where complete factory/industries shut down, you might have some huge problems with bankruptcy and relocation, much less finding a place to live and a new job. Some people have other resources, many do not. What happens to them?

I just heard that today Obama signed the Tribal Law and Order Act.
