I see. People not familiar with New York City and the layout of its boroughs need to take a step back from their criticism of the storm response. Their was virtually no access to the damaged outer boroughs except by helicopter for several days. I was there on Friday and saw some of the damage. After the marathon was cancelled and the Staten Island Ferry was running, many marathoners brought the supplies and equipment to the areas in Staten Island where it was most needed. FEMA and the Red Cross were on the ground too, though maybe not as fast as some would have liked. The Mylar blankets were from the marathon supply and were handed out by those volunteers. Most hotels were unable to house people with vouchers because their rooms were full of marathoners and then paying business people from outside Manhattan who work there and lacked daily transportation home. I believe the housing crisis is easing and being well handled. Of course there is chaos and there will be pain, uncertainty and stress for a lot of people for a long while. It was the storm of the century for the East coast for goodness sake. Some people just cannot wait to paint the response a failure (read Obama) when they know nothing about the actual situation. The people in NY and NJ are very resourceful and know what it means to help one another at all times, not just in times of crisis.

Too bad we can't say the same for the Katrina people. - nm

Just heard New York and in the Eastern Coast may get 20-30 inches of snow. They have blizzard warnings out and the mayor of NY has warned people to prepare and to not expect this to be like other storms. Please pray for the Eastern part of the country. They are to get blizzard and as much as 20-30 inches of snow. I worry about electricity staying on and the temps will get very cold too.
