Obama Says American Public Was Not Misled on Healthcare

Posted: Nov 17, 2014

President Obama dismissed the outrage over a consultant's remarks that the Affordable Care Act was passed using a "lack of transparency" that was benefited by "the stupidity of the American voter."

At a news conference on Sunday in Brisbane, Australia, Obama was asked by Fox News correspondent Ed Henry whether he misled the American public about aspects of the Affordable Care Act in order to get it passed.

“No. I did not," Obama responded, adding, "The fact that an adviser who was never on our staff expressed an opinion that I completely disagree with in terms of the voters is not a reflection on the actual process that was run.”

Gruber, who has staunchly defended the ACA in recent interviews, was paid approximately $400,000 for his advisory role in the crafting of the law.

Is Obama stating fact or fiction?  Should we rely on his past history of lies or believe that he is telling the truth now?

I think he has lost his mind. He doesn't know the difference between fact and fiction anymore. I believe nothing that comes out of his mouth.

How could anyone? He's a pathological liar. - LM

Obama lies

I can identify some of the lies you are asking for - nana7
[ In Reply To ..]
1. If you like the plan you have you can keep it. No you could not. Pretty much all plans have been changed from co-pay to high or higher deductibles. My plan was dissolved and a new plan implemented. Bad news for me.

2. You rate will not go up. Oh boy did it go up. I now pay over $4500 a year for an insurance plan I can't afford to use because of the high deductibles.

3. Insurance premiums will go down for everyone. No they didn't. My insurance premiums went up about $120.00 per month. And from what I am hearing they are going up again this year.

Those are the top 3 lies or misleadings that he said about this lovely Obamacare.

Since my employer offers this crap of insurance now I do not qualify to get health insurance from anyone else. So I have no chioce to keep this insurance even though I only used it once in the last 9 months and had to pay for that visit myself ($118.00, plus labs, plus prescriptions) and my husband used it twice. Until I reach $2500 for myself and my husband the insurance company will not pay anything unless we go into the hospital and then I am too afraid to do the math on that one.

Bottom line he screwed us all up that have employer based insurance or private insurance policies. Only benefit I can see is to the insurance companies who are collecting premiums but the people can't afford to go to the doctors. So there you go again, our government screwing the little people for the big corporations and you cannot tell me that was not his intention from the get go.

He is a sell out as far as I am concerned and still continues to lie through his teeth.
But you DO qualify - For insurance anywhere
[ In Reply To ..]
Even if your employer offers health insurance you don't have to take it and you CAN get any plan on the public market place. You won't get the premium credit since your employer offers insurance, but you're still free to get any plan offered.

Even though I didn't get the premium credit, I still chose a plan through the public market place because it was a better value than what I would have paid for the plan my employer was offering.

Seriously, people, do research! It's NOT true that you're banned from getting insurance elsewhere if your employer offers any type of plan. You can decline it and buy elsewhere.
You have EMPLOYER insurance - not Obamacare
[ In Reply To ..]
So your argument does not make sense.

Everyone knew that the ACA was going to make the changes to plans. That was the main purpose of the ACA--not having your insurance cancelled, adding kids to 26 years of age, lifetime caps, and minimum coverage. When Obama said you could keep your plan, I knew just what he was talking about--that similar plans would be available that were improved. Not the same exact plan. Private insurers have changed their plans every year.

There is a lot of misinformation being spread about deductibles and premiums, because the insurance companies are still basically crooks. When the private insurance company makes a change to a plan, they do not necessarily inform you that other plans are available to you that may be a better fit and cheaper (and that you may qualify for a subsidy). You have to do your own research and my advice is to never believe an insurance salesman.

Please find a referenced source that Obama said your premiums would go down. Do you know how much the premiums have gone up for the last 20 years? I think the best anyone has hoped for that insurance would actually provide coverage without the double-digit increase.

If you are not happy with your employer-based insurance either quit your job or lobby your representatives that you would like Obamacare for all. Quit blaming Obamacare for your private coverage.

So Gruber admitted consciously selling Obama a $400,000 lemon - blamings Obama/American stupidity

[ In Reply To ..]
Apparently confusing "stupid" with people that don't have advanced degrees from MIT or Harvard in Economics.

And rather than taking responsibility for the fact that he consciously sold all these people a shoddy, unfinished product (including Romney, because Romneycare and Obamacare are the exact) thing, we're allowing him to blame everyone else for buying his shoddy product?

And we are listening to one word HE says why again?

clarification of my point, written hurriedly earlier - (OP)

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not saying it IS a shoddy product, the truth is I don't know, I'm not an economist. However, any legit concerns brought up can be fixed from what I've seen.

I'm saying if that's true, and Gruber, the designer of both Obamcare and Romneycare (the same plan) had a problem with the plan itself of the "transparency" of it, he had every opportunity to find solutions to those issues (which is what he's paid to do) or tell everyone his concerns with it long before now.

Democrats knew Obamacare was a lemon - ProMT

[ In Reply To ..]
when they signed it before they even read it. Have you ever heard of anything more ridiculous?
IF they knew it was a lemon, then you're right. - ---
[ In Reply To ..]
But the same would also be true then for Romney. He was ready to sell it on a national level too, if elected.

The fact is, both candidates and parties should've researched this more, as we should have as a people (myself included).

But what would Obama or Romney would have to gain by selling a lemon healthcare system to us?

Regardless, I don't think we should left Gruber off the hook that easily or glorify him as some sort of hero. His actions now, combined with what I read he said regarding seniors from another commenter and the American people is pretentious, condescending, and morally reprehensible for relieving himself of responsibility he knows he has, without displaying an ounce of any discernible remorse; in fact, almost a pride in his ability to sell it to both parties and get away with it.

Even if true about seniors and Americans being "stupid", they should be pitied and assisted, not shamed.

He reminds me of a used car salesman once that sold my grandmother a car that had the exhaust system literally wired up with clothes hangars, then tried to say "she must have dementia."

My grandmother was sharper-minded and a better driver than me at 91. She just gave people too much benefit of the doubt sometimes (which is a quality we sometimes share.)

If you've ever seen the movie "Beasts of the Southern Wild," there's a quote in there I try to remember. I think it goes...

"Ya got to take care of 'dem things in 'dis world that's sweeter, smaller and sicker than you."

To me, that includes seniors, the uneducated, and the uninsured.

If his lips are moving - he's lying.

...and sometimes even when they aren't moving.

The impact of dissolving the ACA will be far reaching everywhere, jobs lost.  I wish we could come together as Americans and just begin fixing the more glaring deficiencies in the program we already have.  I think a public option would be a good start.  This should have been in the original bill but politics and the insurance lobbyists got in the way.  Ultimately, single-payer like the rest of the civilized world is my preference. ...

Healthcare's Bipartisan Problem. Almost Half Of Healthcare SpendingJan 13, 2017
healthiest half of the population consumes only 3% of health care costs. The only alternative would appear to be taxpayer subsidies. It is next to impossible, politically, to take away freebees once in place. Income redistribution continues to increase. The 2010 health law, also known as Obamacare, forced insurers to sell coverage to anyone, at the same price, regardless of their risk of incurring big claims. That provision was popular. Not so were rules requiring nearly everyone to have ins ...
