No baskets allowed to DNC

Any comments on Charlotte area churches being told they could not deliver "welcome baskets" to delegates at DNC. Media has said they were not pushing their faith or an agenda, simply wanted to give NC pralines, directions, offer to help if baby-sitting needed, etc., but were told no as their pro-life agenda was not consistent with the platform of the DNC. I guess the DNC does not need the southern Christian vote now? Remarkable that we can no longer have a different opinion (or should I say conviction) about anything without being labeled and ostracized. Scary folks.

This may come as a shock to you, but some folks - are not one-issue voters.

There are also Pro-Life/Pro-abortion PREVENTION dems who find the extreme views of Santorum-esque "BC is dangerous" views to be oxymoronic toward those ends. There are Pro-Life dems who believe rape and incest victims be excluded from abortion bans. The point it, just as there is more than one way to skin a cat, the abortion question is not a black-and-white issue of embracing extremes.
Also, there are Prolifers within the dem fold who cannot swallow R/R camp lies, or vote against their positions on MC and SS, or think that the R/R budget is undo-able nonsense, or, or, or....
Not a shock. But there are some issues where there - can be absolutely no compromise.

When it comes to defending the millions of lives of unborn children, there is no "third way". You either support the party that is indifferent to their murders, or you don't.
I'm sorry that we live in a culture that no longer understands the concept of commitment to uncompromising principles. We like to laugh at such an idea - such people are described as "rigid", "inflexible" or perhaps "narrow-minded"...and none of those labels are intended to be compliments.
We were better off when most people knew when something was simply wrong and would stick by their guns.

[ In Reply To ..]Imply what you like. I was simply wondering what the take of others is on what I am reading. Some of you are so superior and condescending. I may not be the sharpest tack in the box, but, you know, I am an anti-abortion Christian Democrat so not like I am ignorant that there are more than me. Just feeling uneasy about this party going too far left (abortion on demand, the God/Jerusalem in and out, now simple offers of welcome and help) although obviously it seems for most of you, there could be no such thing.

[ In Reply To ..]I suspect there is a failure to communicate here. There's no telling who the mayor's office liaison is who made this comment. The fact that they are now trying to refer all inquiries to the DNC, who have yet to issue a reply, is not surprising either (can you say CYA/pass the buck?).
The DNC is kinda busy right now, so it will probably take a little while to get a response, since they would naturally want to gather facts first. In terms of this post, it is not possible to draw ANY valid conclusion at this juncture, since we do not have a response from all parties involved, including the mayor himself (not his staff).
The logic I am chewing on with this is as follows: Since the DNC did support the Islamic prayer gathering, whose beliefs could easily be construed as not aligning with party positions on women, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that is the DNC's position on this matter. In fact, we do not know at this juncture whether or not they even had ANY input into the purported response the church group got from the mayor's "office." If they did, then I would suspect it is related to security issues that have to do with the prohibited items guests are not allowed to bring into the convention center....since that is the difference between the evangelicals' story and the Islamic prayer gathering circumstances, whose members were not trying to enter the stadium with baskets, each one of which would require inspection.
As for sending welcome letters, it is ABSURD to think that the DNC would try to censor a welcome letter based on opposing political beliefs when, in fact, it seems they would appreciate the gesture instead. This sounds like screwup by a low-level employee in the mayor's office who made a completely unauthorized statement that could likely end up costing him/her their job before it's over.
One thing I can say with certainty. The cons are jumping the gun, as usual, busy trying to create yet ANOTHER distraction based on a cues they are taking from conservative media hype....and they are doing so without having all the facts at their disposal. Nothing new. Nothing at all.
