More R&R math: 47% = 30%

Posted: Oct 2, 2012

Finally, a viewpoint the R bros totally share....one they don't have to run away from when answering hard questions from campain trail press corps.  Ryan concurs with Romney that a large segment of America's population are shiftless, lazy folks who are dependent on the government and have no motivation to improve their lives.  Unlike real citizens, they do not share our so-called American dream.  Ryan is a bit more generous in his estimation.  His figure is 30% as opposed to Romney's 47%.

"Seventy percent of Americans want the American dream. They believe in the American idea. Only 30 percent want the welfare state.  Before too long, we could become a society where the net majority of Americans are takers, not makers."

Does this mean Ryan called himself "inelegant" the other day?  What's up with that?

Here's the link.  Jump all over the source, if you must, but the comments are on tape.

American dream is to be able to retire and have Social Security and Medicare which they paid into for more than 50 years of their lives?

No problem there.... - SK1

Ryan is a self-admitted numbers guy. And unless he's lying about the statistics (which I haven't seen and can't speak to), he's only saying that 30% of American support a government-reliant society.

I don't see any deep, dark double-speak here.

Good Old MathOct 16, 2013
Hey guys and gals.  I hate to over-simplify something so complicated but I am sure we have all learned, you have to have more coming in than going out.  If you borrow, you have more to pay, but you still have to have more coming in to cover that.  You have to reserve some in case of an emergency.  I think it is a matter of losing touch with reality and the basics that has landed us in hot water. ...

Bad At Math, Worse At Remembering Meds, NowApr 21, 2015
About 2 years ago had cataract surgery, recently returned to have Yag laser because occasionally a film will deposit on the capsule after the first surgery. I thought hooray, the drops are gone. Not so fast now. I have now been told (because of corneal dystrophy) to take 2 different drops every day from here on. I had trouble remembering 3x a day and now this is the issue: First of all, unlike capsules cannot put the drops into a Monday, Tuesday, day of the week container. I have one drop I ...

The Republican War On Math: Tax Cuts And Austerity" Nov 18, 2012
On election night, Republican strategist and Fox News contributor Karl Rove was unwilling to believe that President Obama had won Ohio, arguing with anchor Megyn Kelly that Ohio was too close to call. Eventually, Kelly asked Rove if his calculations were "just math you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better or is this real?" This televised moment on Election Day was one small victory for statistics. Another was thatFiveThirtyEight blogger Nate Silver accurately pred ...

(eeks! - they were very good applies - Honeycrisp) I am near broke (no rather I AM broke with a very limited amount of money), but I need to buy another 5 applies.  This time I see a sale for Pink Lady apples (another very good apple).  These applies are on sale for 1.29 a pound.  If I buy 5 of them can someone tell me how much 5 will cost.&nb ...

Sen. Paul Uses 3rd Grade Math To Explain How Tax CutsJun 24, 2017
On Friday’s Morning Joe, MSNBC panelist Donny Deutsch pushed the typical liberal “tax cuts for the rich” narrative as he slammed the Republican health care reform bill: "The other side of the aisle will call this as a redistribution of wealth. Obviously, parties are given to hyperbole, but the reality according to the Center [for] Tax Policy is that 90 percent of the benefits in this plan go to families making $700,000 a year or more, the one percent. That is a fiscal reality." He demanded ...
