If I lived in California
Posted: Aug 20, 2012
What a crazy political climate in that state. I feel for ya'.
Banks were mandated to make these risky loans, then were asked to absorb the financial loss. California decided to use taxpayer money to pay those mortgages. Unbelievable.

Regardless, I still wouldn't live anywhere else. The - rest of the US somehow seems foreign to me.

Thank you - I was just going to say the same thing.

My post got all windy and I deleted the whole thing, but I feel exactly the same.

I'm in Georgia from Glendale, a conservative CA city, - and foreign does not describe it

anyway. I miss the rights and protections we gave ourselves by law in California. Knowing we don't have them here is not a pleasant thing to be reminded of by the news or whatever.
Our friends and neighbors here in the semirural South are mostly lovely people when it comes to taking care of their family and friends, and others they consider like them. Those we've made friends with are great, supportive neighbors. There are some of them, though, whom I simply will not endeavor to discuss the world outside their own little part with, including about 250,000 million of their fellow citizens. Especially in groups. They almost always behave nicely individually, but in numbers they tend to become aggressive and are prone to attacking in packs. Exactly unlike me. I'll disagree strongly on my own, but ganging up on someone is just terribly unfair and unseemly.
I understand all too well that those people know they are, by definition, good people and adherents of the one true religion, and that America is the chosen land of God. Unlike the rest of the billions of people and the rest of the planet. I even understand their distress that the rest of the world doesn't try to be more like them and at the grave problems that raises for us all.
OTOH, many would not understand me at all, and I waste no effort trying to change that. Fortunately, there are lots of common subjects that absorb us all to enjoy discussing, and I do. Weather. Cooking. Shopping. Gardening. Husbands. Children. I go quiet with education and just smile nicely when one of them thanks God with delighted sincerity for giving her the winning $25 lottery ticket. (God spends an inordinate amount of his workday around here.) There are fortunately sometimes one or two people I can exchange glances with.
Meanwhile, it's very pretty here. :) Right now there's a riot around the bird feeder on my wonderful porch, and tomorrow my little grandson's coming up to play and swim in the lake.
Exactly...sm - JTBB

Amazingly enough, in this state there are are still areas where if you are a certain color "you just don't go there." I feel like I'm 10 years old again and my grandmother is threatening me if I go "across the railroad tracks."
Gotta love the hummingbirds though :D
Well, bless your - heart

Former Tennessean here. Went to church with a neighbor of mine one time, only one time. when the preacher started bouncing off the floor, that was enough for me.
:)! My favorite funeral ever (truly, it was fine) had people - coming up to sway and chant their memories

of the one who had passed, her virtues, how she would be missed. The cadence of their chants was obviously very old, and it was fascinating (to a California city girl) and very, very touching.

then spent a few in TN. Cali is a true melting pot. Our parties looked like U.N. meetings :-) I was definitely a stranger in a strange land in TN.
This is so not true. Fox news, there's the fact problem - I heart California

This is just simply not true. Every underwater homeowner here has the same problem every other one does in every state. There are zero bailouts happening here. Stop watching Fox News. It isn't news, its propaganda.
I'dBeFuming, why not do a little fact checking? - I ALWAYS fact check articles. NM

Fox News hates California because we are a "blue" state, which in the Prez election we are but I think people would be VERY surprised how many conservative enclaves there are here.
People who hate Cali should remember our gross domestic product is 8th in the world. The US would be scrubbed if Cali were to disappear as so many conservatives wish for.
Anyway, unreliable source and, frankly, a big pack of lies.
I wish my state (CA) could cecede from the US - and become its own, far better, country.

That's what I wish! ;)

Having Lived In Southern California For Decades, I'm Not Only Nov 20, 2012but I miss it and find the more insular, mostly white Christian town I live in now sadly lacking in important ways.
My society in L.A. was mostly white, mostly born and raised there, but with plenty of variety, like our Japanese-American neighbors, the black guy in the next office with a passion for French antiques, a Turkish friend whose wistful descripions of the farm she grew up on sound like a little paradise, the accountant who's probably gay, a Yemeni-American manager with a terrific ...
California Prop 187 In 1994 LOST California For The GOPNov 07, 2012red for Reagan and H.W. Bush, but NO more. California's gone very blue in Presidential elections ever since.
For those who don't remember, 187 was an attempt by conservatives to deny schooling and healthcare to illegal immigrant children. It outraged MANY of all backgrounds, but it especially activated the Hispanics it was aimed at; and although it was later voided as unconstitutional, the damage it did to the GOP lives on.
If no 187, we might well have woke up to a President-Elect ...

MT In CaliforniaNov 05, 2016When Nuance laid off all California MTs, I began to wonder what was happening but that was employees. TTS wrote me and said they will not hire any from California. I have applied to numerous jobs and hardly a word. I have passed tests at 96% and still, have not been hired. I purposefully applied somewhere and left off my address. I saw there were 400 hits so I figured I would not hear from them. Today I got an email asking, "Where are you located?" Am I correc ...
California Principal May 08, 2010How awful this whole thing is. It is apparent that the school officials just wanted to avoid any unrest, but they ended up setting the stage anyway. I don't think they could have avoided it no matter what they did, but it seems it would have been much better if they had announced that there would probably be those who choose to wear the American flag. The students should have been counseled on how to handle situations such as these as a group, and made fully aware of the c ...

About Obamacare, I Just Found Out In California, SMOct 14, 2013that many of the exchange plans will not have the same doctors as the non-exchange plans. Blue Shield will only offer 50% of the doctors and only 40% of the hospitals as the same non-exchange plans.
I guess you have to sign up for it before you know what's in it. Pun intended.

Obama Stimulus Funds Went To California Feb 20, 2017The 2009 stimulus package funded millions of dollars for safety improvements for a dam in California that was in “good shape,” but not to the Oroville Dam that is now on the verge of a spillway crisis.
Nearly 200,000 residents north of Sacramento were ordered to evacuate after fears that erosion would cause the emergency spillway to fail, which would lead to “catastrophic flooding“ from a 30-foot wall of water.

California To Get High-speed Rail Funds Others Rejected.Dec 10, 2010
California's high-speed rail plan will receive up to $624 million in additional federal funds, Transportation Department officials announced Thursday.
The new funding adds to the $715 million in federal funds previously awarded to California. It arrives courtesy of Ohio and Wisconsin, two states where recently elected Republican governors decided not to accept their own allotment of high-speed rail dollars.
