How far can wages drop here? Don't they need us to be consumers too?

Henry Ford, for all his faults, was famous for his foresight in raising plant worker salaries well above the norm so they could afford to buy the cars, thus creating a market for his product. What's changed?
Short version, as the planet has continued to develop and markets have been created in hundreds of countries, business can make the products cheaper overseas and sell there too. Plus, inevitably, the identification and loyalty of "American" businesses to America is disappearing as their operations and their executives become increasingly international.
I'd say we got off the backs of business, all right. For those who thought this was a great idea, are we done yet or does big business need more help from us?

We're still a market to be made profits from. Perhaps we need to - set some requirements of our own.
[ In Reply To ..]As both many, many millions of workers to be used and consumers to be milked. plus citizens who can stand up for ourselves, we have power. We need to stop letting ourselves be walked all over by business. It's way past time to set some limits on those bozos.
Have your congressmen and your senator been trying to make things right for their constituents? For their country? For you? A lot of them expect to be reelected this year. Has yours earned a return to Washington? Mine have emphatically not.
