Do these conservatives have to obsess about this man and bash him constantly? Don't they get tired of it? One would think it was second nature to them. Oh, wait!

"Here you go again" - To quote a famous person - Mrs. Tingles - sm

Do you expect that we are supposed to forget the country has a person sitting in the seat of the president. Are we supposed to just turn off our news and not watch the destruction of the country. Do you suggest we just all sit in our homes and watch the Housewives or Kardashians or follow Bieber on twitter.

Issues are happening every day. Unfortunately they are not good for the country. Watching the news, participating in conversations about these issues is what keeps us up to date on what is happening. Nobody is bashing him constantly, but as we were highly critical of issues with President Bush, President Clinton and others before him, we are also highly critical of issues under Obama.

Are we tired of what is going on and what he is doing? Yeah, you bet we are. We would love to be able to post great news, however, when laws are being broken, he stands and lies to the public (something for which he should be ashamed of), when he is out of control, you bet we have the right to speak up and talk about it, especially because it affects us. It affects us on a daily basis.

On a different note I'll say there is an issue I do agree with Obama about and that is I read he is in talks with Mexico and said the illegal children cannot stay. That is a good note. However, as optimistic as I am about that, I also know his record while being in office and I'll just say I won't believe it until there is action being taken to remedy this problem that his admin has created.

But that is what is great about this country. We are allowed to talk about issues that affect us. I always have and always will say that if people don't like the issues being discussed or that the American people have the right to talk about them there are plenty of other countries that some people might be happier living in where they are not allowed to disagree with anything their government does. Of course I'm not saying that anyone here should move there, so no need to report me with an excuse that I'm telling people to leave the country because I'm not. What I am saying is that this is the way our country is. This is how our system works. People have the right to protest here or not. We have the right to belong to any religion we want or not and we sure by almighty God have the right to discuss issues that are affecting us. If people don't like that then I have no idea why they want to live in a free country.

It's just that the straw man argument loses me every time.
And I stopped reading yours at It's just that straw man - Mrs Tingles - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Doesn't matter whether or not you stopped reading or at what point.

The point of that statement was what in the world do liberals expect us to do just sit in our homes and not look at the TV, keep our minds focused on other non-important issues, watch re-runs of TV shows (any show, pick your own choice).

No, we live in a country where we are involved in what goes on in government that affects our lives (well at least some of us are).

That's okay, I encourage you not to read the rest of my message, you won't like it anyway and will probably tell me I have a comma out of place.

But you have a nice day now.
I've enjoyed both of your posts. - sm

I think the person who responded to you is the same one who has set about twisting the words of other posters to make herself or her party look better. Sad for her because we are not fooled by the tactic. Some of these liberals have nothing of merit to post on their own and go after conservative posts like rabid dogs looking for water. It's pitiful, actually.
"Rabid dogs looking for water." ??? - What?
[ In Reply To ..]
Rabid dogs don't generally look for water. Another name for rabies is "hydrophobia," meaning "fear of water."

I don't think it's a fair statement or very nice to compare liberals (or anyone, for that matter) to "rabid dogs," but if one cannot post without insisting on name calling, it would make sense to have a valid insult.
It must be nice to be perfect - and know everything.

"Pick your own choice" of show? No one actually said any of that television argument except you. It's a straw man.

I also did not see where anyone posted that you have a comma out of place. In fact, I don't generally remember ever seeing a post on this board where anyone complained about punctuation. It's your own argument, no one else's.

You have a nice day also.
Ooooh, another twister, Nice try but epic failure - Mrs. Tingles - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Yeah, I know I'm the one who said the comment about the TV shows. I wrote it, of course I know I said it. Since they didn't like the ones I first mentioned, the second one I gave the choice of picking your own choice of shows. You can pick any show you want to. It's all dumbing down of Americans. I see it works really well with a lot of people. There are people out there who can tell you how much touchdowns a football player made, or what color Kim Kardashians engagement dress was or who the new lady on one of the Housewifes TV is, but they have no idea who the VP or SOS is. Take it one step even further...you can watch videos of a guy interviewing people. They think Joe Biden (you know, VP Biden) is a surfer guy who died in a surfing accident. He asked dozens of people who Biden is and nobody knew (among other questions).

I didn't say anyone said I had a comma out of place. You see, that's what happens when people don't read the message but are more interested in trying to cut down the poster. So, here is my quote:

"That's okay, I encourage you not to read the rest of my message, you won't like it anyway and will probably tell me I have a comma out of place."

The key words being "will probably tell me".

Have a nice day now.
Straw man argument is not a "cut down" - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Quoting you: "I didn't say anyone said I had a comma out of place. You see, that's what happens when people don't read the message but are more interested in trying to cut down the poster."

Straw man argument is not a "cut down" and no one is twisting your words. Straw man argument just means that you're arguing issues that no one brought up as if someone actually suggested it or thinks it, and then you refute it, like you're still doing here in this post.

You first said: "Do you suggest we just all sit in our homes and watch the Housewives or Kardashians or follow Bieber on twitter."

Actually, I don't suggest that, and you're arguing something I never said, which is a "straw man argument." Straw man: It is a debate term that means one is arguing a position that was not suggested by the other.

You said: "Yeah, I know I'm the one who said the comment about the TV shows. I wrote it, of course I know I said it. Since they didn't like the ones I first mentioned, the second one I gave the choice of picking your own choice of shows. You can pick any show you want to."

Actually, I couldn't care less which TV shows are in your list; I neither liked them or disliked them because I, in fact, never brought the issue up to begin with--straw man, and then you argue the TV show argument in the post.

I wasn't trying to "cut down" (to quote your term) anyone. I was saying that you're making arguments that I'm not making. Straw man is a term used in debate. When you choose people's ideas for them by using words like "do you suggest" or "will probably tell me," then you're assigning arguments to them that they never made in order to make your own point.
I beg to differ. - NPC
[ In Reply To ..]
I agree with Mrs. Tingles and others that you twist around the words of other posters.

In addition, my definition of a straw man argument is different than yours. There are actually several definitions online, so you might want to check out a term before you apply it to someone. This is what I found:

Straw Man Argument: Misrepresenting someone's argument to make it easier to attack.
Thank you - Mrs. Tingles - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Nothing that is more irritating than to write something and have someone twist it around into something I did not say.

Thanks for the definition of straw man argument. I think posters should at least understand what it is they are saying before they write it down.

This poster is continuing to argue and twist and write things I and other posters didn't say. There is only one thing that kind of behavior is called and I'm not going to feed them anymore.

Thanks for your post.
Straw man argument is not a "cut down" - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Straw man argument is a debate term that means a person is misrepresenting or formulating someone's argument that the person never made. You're basically arguing someone's position that isn't necessarily their position in order to make a point. It's easier to make points by formulating/misrepresenting because you're arguing your own issue and not theirs. So when someone says "straw man," they're simply saying it's not their position nor anything they argued from the outset.

She said: "Do you suggest we just all sit in our homes and watch the Housewives or Kardashians or follow Bieber on twitter."

I said it's a straw man because, in fact, I didn't suggest that at all.

Same thing with the statement: "That's okay, I encourage you not to read the rest of my message, you won't like it anyway and will probably tell me I have a comma out of place."

Another "straw man" and assigning arguments that were never made in order to make an easy point, when in fact nothing like that was ever suggested.

You can reword things any which way you want, and make attempts at interpreting something to suit your mood, but do you know how to give it a rest? Is your ambition here to exasperate people? Is it really necessary for you to put your two cents worth in on every single post in an attempt to twist people's words around to suit your needs? Or do you truly not understand what people are saying and have to put things into your own words to make yourself understand or feel important? This is really getting old.
Censorship by bullying? - What's new?
[ In Reply To ..]
All the poster is saying is that she didn't make the arguments being debated and discussed by the other poster. I don't see any word twisting, but I do see someone trying to bully another poster with this post; you are singling out a poster and appearing to suggest censorship. This is not the first time we've seen this here on this board.

Unless you are the moderator, it's not your concern.
Call it what you want. I call it badgering - and demeaning by the twister.
[ In Reply To ..]

There is no twisting of words. - Really
[ In Reply To ..]
In your post where you suggest there is twisting, so far there are 6 dislikes. No one insulted anybody in those posts, and no one twisted any words. Straw man is not an insult but a debate term meaning something along the lines of "I never suggested/argued that, you argued that."

You are free to read posts or ignore them, but there's simply no need to bully any other poster or suggest they stop posting because you don't agree with them.
Likes/Dislikes - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Liberal posts always get a lot of likes. Conservative posts always get a lot of dislikes. The content doesn't matter. When the liberals see certain monikers, it's an invitation for a dislike. That's just the way it goes on this board. Also, there are more liberals on this board than there are conservatives.
I don't believe that is true. - Just Saying
[ In Reply To ..]
Actually, I believe it is incorrect to assume that "content doesn't matter" and "when the liberals see certain monikers, it's an invitation for a dislike." I will even give an example here of what I mean in actual practice.

Liberals voted for Thad Cochran in Mississippi. Did they agree with everything he stands for? Of course not. But they did vote for him because they agreed that they'd rather have Thad Cochran representing them than the Tea Party candidate. So they "liked" enough of what he said to vote for him. I think it's a good example of people coming together for the greater good and democracy in action. I'll vote conservative in my state primary in a similar situation.

The fact is, the moniker makes no difference, just like in Mississippi: If liberals like enough of what a conservative has to say, they will "like" that post or will actually vote conservative. Likewise, if they don't agree, they will "dislike" it.
