I sent a letter to my congressional representatives - it only took me about 15 minutes - not that it will do any good - but at least I can say that I didn't sit back and take it anymore.

Not only have tech giants like Apple and Google engaged in what a federal court called an “overarching conspiracy” to prevent wage competition, but Silicon Valley firms also abuse H-1B visas to bring in immigrant competition at lower wages, a practice that’s now spreading to other industries. (In Los Angeles, Southern California Edison is firing workers and replacing them with immigrants now).

Have ruined the San Francisco Bay area and the Peninsula. It was in the paper the other day that an apartment (2 bedrooms) in the Mission District rented for 10K/month. Average rent for your basic (not fancy) 1 bedroom is 3K. Don't take my word for it--Google "Apartments San Francisco." It's scary.

46,000,000 Americans on Food Stamps (38 straight months).
1 in 5 Americans live on poverty.
25,000,000 Foreign born worker in America.
46,000,000 million Americans can't even provide their own food and were importing even more workers (both legal & illegal).
The destruction of America continues by the Globalists.

because they are cheap and plentiful. I can't fault those who apply to come here, at least they are doing it legally. However I can and do fault our government for a super-saturation of foreign workers when we have plenty of Americans present who can aptly do the job.
This also adds to the issue of illegals once visas are overstayed. We would do well to tighten up on the number of applicants we allow entry, maybe even cut it back to only permanent residents and no guest workers until a certain percentage of our own are working again. We could also cut off any gov't funds Microsoft may receive from the gov't.
We are approaching 93 million people not participating in the workforce, some because they can't find work, some because they are lazy and complacent living off of our tax dollar, and others because they've been replaced by cheap imports. Corporatism has created a big mess of the economy and it is all of us who are literally paying for it.

fraud including claims that they already had a job lined up, fake resumes and fake degrees.
Why a company wants to hire a foreigner with a fake degree? Doesn't make a lot of sense when locals will be wiling to do so too. :-)
Then there's the notion of H1B's being cheap. They are SLIGHTLY cheaper but not much. And since they tend to do such bad work, it reminds me of the $25 camshaft sensor I bought for my Hyundai from China because the OEM model wasn't available (it broke down and I had to have my car towed) Look up target identity breach and lost of millions of customer's data. And NCTracks. And Obamacare website. All done by outsourcing/H1B's.
All failures.
How does it make sense? Try googling: "Apex systems bribery" and "kickbacks H1B". Corrupt managers take kickbacks to hire them.
surplus not shortage of skilled workers - sm

“As Microsoft’s layoffs show, there is a surplus—not a shortage—of skilled, talented, and qualified Americans seeking [science, technology, engineering and mathematics] STEM employment,” he said. “Each year, universities graduate twice as many students with STEM degrees as find STEM jobs. According to the Census Bureau, more than 11 million Americans with STEM degrees are not employed in STEM jobs—or three in four STEM degree holders. Among recent graduates, about 35 percent of science students, 55 percent of technology students, 20 percent of engineering students, and 30 percent of math students are now working in jobs that don’t require any four-year college degree—let alone their area of specialty.”
H1-B workers are brought into this country - for one reason
[ In Reply To ..]
they cost less than US citizens and they will endure working conditions that US citizens find unacceptable. There is no shortage of qualified employees in this country for technology. Foreign workers demand less in pay and benefits, especially those from India. If you want to increase your profits you should bring in cheap foreign labor.
With a recently appointed Indian CEO, you can well imagine what's going to happen next in Microsoft...

It seems to me the ire of many conservatives (as suggested by claims like "They're in Obama's pocket") is misplaced.
For starters, a fact that's being rather ignored about this layoff is that it mostly affects employees outside the US, in the struggling Nokia group. So why would it be so upsetting to the conservatives here in the States?
As for Microsoft and other tech giants hiring foreign workers, that's just how big business works. They want to spend as little money on employees as possible, to maximize their profits. It's called "Capitalism". And conservatives are the ones always clamoring for fewer regulations on businesses. Well, this is just another taste of how that will work. Without legal constraints that force them to act otherwise, businesses will always serve their owners and shareholders, at the expense of employees.
