Lord knows, America needs all the help it can get in the fitness department.

"Michelle Obama is teaming up with some big names in hip hop to help release a Letâ��s Move! inspired album next month.

Entitled â��Songs for a Healthier America,â�� the record features video cameos (but no singing) of the first lady along with big names like Jordin Sparks, Ashanti, Run DMC, Doug E. Fresh and Monifah."

Basically, it's a collection of songs to exercise to. Big deal.

Big names contributing to it or not, it would have - been fun if she did sing one. nm

Why would anyone have a problem with our First Lady trying to motivate young folks to exercise more and get healthy? Makes no sense to me.

For me, it is a breath of fresh air...reminds me of another younger president and first lady back in the 1960s. Refreshing.

Because they don't like her. It doesn't - matter if it's good for kids.

I'm interested in how often we hear the phraseology: "she just needs to..." when it comes to the first lady and her activities. It smacks of disrespect and aggression. It suggests that Michelle Obama is somehow stepping out of line - that she has forgotten "her place", if you will.

Don't know enough about her to form an opinion on her.

With that said getting children to listen to music (and I use that term lightly) that promotes violence and cop killing and dumbs down the people listening to it is wrong.

We used to have a neighbor that had 2 boys. One was in the 3rd grade the other in high school. The one in third grade was smart as a whip. Even smarter than his parents at times. The one in high school drowned his whole life out listening to that junk and his brain was rotted. Even his parents in their yard one time told him the music "has rotted your brain". So what do they do? Let the little one follow in big brothers steps. He started walking up and down the street listening to that garbage as loud as anything and sure enough the kid is getting more like his big brother (and as far away as the smart little boy he used to be). He's now practically brain dead too.

So, no, thank God I don't have kids that would have to listen to that garbage.

And I use the word garbage cos I can't write the four letter word that starts with the letter s.

I haven't bothered to check out that album, much less the lyrics, because after raising 2 kids and having 4 of their children in pre- and elementary school I pretty much know what teaching tools for children sound like.

There's a lot of hip-hop that's very positive and promotes education.

My parents used to give me that "rot your brain" line too. I was listening to heavy metal. Believe it or not, I never ended up being a satan worshiper or murderer. I just grew up eventually and started listening to better music.

In the 1950s, the older generation thought we were all possessed by the devil because of rock and roll. The first time Elvis Presley was on the Ed Sullivan show camera shots had to be above his waist. The nation was going to hell in a hand basket.

Perhaps you don't know that there are all types of hip hop. Not all is, as you described it, "garbage." The idea that Michelle Obama would be promoting music containing violence and cop-killing references is way off base. Appropriate music has always been a vehicle to promote exercise. I remember doing the hokey pokey in gym class.

The adage "the more things change the more they stay the same" is indeed true.
