Unfortunately, I don't think she's a very good campaigner. However, if people will look at her record of fighting for everyday folks, they would see what she's really made of. She is a fantastic advocate of the middle class!

Maybe she'd be a lot better if she'd learn to tell the truth - backwards typist

[ In Reply To ..]
She's been caught in so many lies that it's hard for me to believe anything.

Mitt Romney does not want "to give tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires. Ryan would pulverize financial reform, voucherize Medicare, and vaporize Obamacare. That's a crock.

Sure, they want to repeal Obamacare only because it taxes the heck out of people (and you know darn well that part is true)and because you will not be able to keep your own doctor.

Ryan's plan for Medicare is that you can either stay on original Medicare or chose a private plan and receive a voucher towards it. If you pick a private plan and the voucher doesn't cover the expense...well...that's your problem. What's wrong with having the freedom to chose?

"Not one of them—not one—stashes their money in the Cayman Islands to avoid paying their fair share of taxes." Mitt Romney doesn't stash his cash in the Caymens. He's in a blind trust--hint, that's a stock portfolio and, FYI, look at Obama's tax returns....he ALSO IS IN A BLIND TRUST. BOTH Obama and Romney GET FOREIGN TAX CREDITS! So...listen up a little closer.

The way she was talking last night, she was acting like it was only the democrats that made everything in this country possible, which you know isn't true.

So sorry, JTBB, but you've got to open your eyes and really, really start listening to what some of these politicians are saying. You just may find out that they speak out of both sides of their mouth. (BTW, wonder how many taxes Elizabeth pays and how much of her money is in a blind trust that may invest in foreign companies like Caymen Island businesses.)

Blind trust is right! - see link

Bind Trust definition - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]

A blind trust is a trust in which the fiduciaries, namely the trustees or those who have been given power of attorney, have full discretion over the assets, and the trust beneficiaries have no knowledge of the holdings of the trust and no right to intervene in their handling. Blind trusts are generally used when a settlor (sometimes called a trustor or donor) wishes to keep the beneficiary unaware of the specific assets in the trust, such as to avoid conflict of interest between the beneficiary and the investments. Politicians or others in sensitive positions often place their personal assets (including investment income) into blind trusts, to avoid public scrutiny and accusations of conflicts of interest when they direct government funds to the private sector.

"Listen. I found this great investment paying 7% return, more than so-and-so. Want in on the action?"

Are you going to turn it down?

Do you have exclusive access to unrecorded oral traditions - of NA family tree ancestral accounts

[ In Reply To ..]
or are you just claiming to know what you're talking about? This is not a question of blood line percentages or formal recognitions by one tribe or the next. It's all about family histories passed down through generations and concepts self-identity.

Cons propaganda outlets would be my last source of reliable information on this. The entire concept is WAY too far above their heads, family values falsehoods notwithstanding. BTW, you do realize this fake controversy has failed to move the polls in one direction or the other, don't you?

In your dreams. I make no excuses to Native Americans - or anyone else for
[ In Reply To ..]
adopting my own inner sanctum of Native American self identity, a seed my great-grandmother planted in me at age 6, when I was told there's a couple of Cherokees in the family woodpile. Her son, my grandfather, honored this legacy by buying up mineral rights in the Texas County that bears their name in East Texas, where my Anglo ancestors settled. I inherited those shares when he passed and I take great glee in refusing to sell them out to dozens of offers from oil companies, intent on turning the land into vast earthquake-generating fracking fields.

Elizabeth Warren's policies are all that matter in this race. Fox bah-loney is out of the picture, except in the minds of a deluded minority faction of the GOP. Nonissues are their special area of expertise.

Don't blame me... - SK1

[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't write the stories or do the news reports! I'm not the one who lied about Native American blood to take advantage of minority status and I'm certainly not the group of Native Americans who were angry enough about it to create a website dedicated to it!

As for oral family histories (and I've learned this through personal experience), most of the time they're about as accurate as midwestern weathermen.

Concepts of self-identity? Wanting something to be so or having reason to make it so doesn't make it so!

Lying about and not being able to prove it are 2 - very different things

[ In Reply To ..]
I fall into this category. My great grandmother was 100% NA. Which, since I'm related to her by blood, makes me part NA. According to this line of thinking, since I have no documentation to prove this, it's not true? How many of us (until recently since the internet has made it easier to research) have actually gone back to find documentation before stating what their family heritage is?

Where was all the outrage over Marco Rubio claiming to be the son of Cuban exiles to promote his career?

Are you saying his parents lied to him? That they didn't flee Cuba?

May I ask where you heard/saw/read that?
It's pretty old news. - Not much outrage though.

The link below to a Fox site (Geraldo's take on things), and here is the Washington Post article where I think the story broke (but not 100% sure on that one):

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/marco-rubios-compelling-family-story-embellishes-facts-documents-show/2011/10/20/gIQAaVHD1L_print.html

Please tell me how this is any different than what EW did... simply put down what she had been told by her parents, grandparents, etc. The only difference is that EW did not gain ANYTHING or receive any special benefit from stating that she is NA.
Didn't know and never heard of MR until a couple months ago. - backwards typist
[ In Reply To ..]
I just checked a few places and you are partially correct about MR...but truthfully, it sounds (from what I read) that he wasn't positive about the year. But EW tells a lot of stories that are blatantly false.

"Several times during his race for U.S. Senate, Rubio told reporters and voters his parents left Cuba in 1959, suggesting they had fled Castro's rule. In his campaign bio, and later in his official Senate biography, he said his parents "came to America following Fidel Castro's takeover."

"The dates I have given regarding my family’s history have always been based on my parents’ recollections of events that occurred over 55 years ago and which were relayed to me by them more than two decades after they happened," he wrote on Oct. 20. "I was not made aware of the exact dates until very recently."

Asked about Rubio's official bio the next day, spokesman Alex Conant confirmed, "the dates were wrong."

"We just recently became aware of it, and it just hadn't been updated," he said. (The site updated the evening of Oct. 21, 2011 to say: "Marco was born in Miami in 1971 to Cuban exiles who first arrived in the United States in 1956.")

"Rubio learned the full story talking with his mom, Conant said, and looking at his parents' passports. (His father died in September 2010.)"

Someone is not very happy with her - and with good reason

Family stories aside... - SK1

[ In Reply To ..]
If someone is of distant enough Native American status that the only thing they have is "family stories" to tell them so, they're too distant to be claiming minority status for themselves. IMHO, she did it for no other reason to promote her career and that's something that needs to be considered when looking at other work. And I would say that for ANY politician.

I, too, have (documented) Native American blood, in scant enough amount that it would never occur to me to claim minority status. I would be simply be ashamed to do it when there are more deserving people.

Racism, and genocidal occupation of native lands - unfortunately has played a key role

have Native American blood flowing through their veins and some never realize it. Most of the times the stories and family trees are passed down by word of mouth. I have a little bit, 1/16 (Iroquois/Mohawk,)and am proud of every drop. I accept Elizabeth Warren's belief that she has some AI blood and reject any sinister motive. I would be proud to accept her as a member of the US Native American nation.

Her genealogy has been dissected and regurgitated and dissected again and found to have no Native American blood.... at least going back far enough for her to be able to claim minority status legitimately.

People simply have different opinions... - SK1

[ In Reply To ..]
Just because people have different perspectives and opinions about how things in our country should be handled doesn't mean they're being used.

I don't agree with everyone here, but I would never accuse them of being "used" simply because they hold a different viewpoint. Surely we all deserve more respect than that?

Sorry, no. - Puzzled

I can't respect people who don't use their common sense but instead allow themselves to be distracted by carefully choreographed ***. Especially when the potential repercussions threaten to take down me and my family. The rich and powerful will get richer and more powerful, the rest of us will sink, and we'll only have ourselves to blame. We're it, folks. If we can't do better than this, we don't deserve better than this. Sometimes it's not such a good thing that we're all in it together.
