The volunteer tour guide mentioned FDR's mom's family made their fortune from the opium trade during the Civil War era. It's true but I was surprised she even mentioned that. The tour guide was very open about the what a modern person would see as the seedy ways these families made their money. She mentioned the Roosevelt's started their fortune by processing sugar in colonial NYC, which was part of the Triangle Trade pattern of Colonial America. The sugar was made by slave labor working in the Caribbean.;

Coke had cocaine in it. There used to be jars like for flour or - sugar that had cocaine written on them,

almost impossible to find in antique stores anymore, but it used to be fairly commonplace to find a set of containers for the 1900 kitchen, four containers, each one smaller than the last, marked Flour, Sugar, Salt, and Cocaine.

Cocaine was the go-to drug for such ailments as coughing and Bayer invented heroin as a drug to replace cocaine as a cough medicine, thinking incorrectly that heroin was not addictive, unlike cocaine.

they had the old timey ads on them and as a kid I remember reading about "heroin" and "cocaine" ads on there...so weird that they were used like that back in the day...

I remember things like that at an old subway (not the chain) - sandwich place we used to go to.

probably 30+ years ago. Yea they have changed their tables since then. They were interesting to me even as a kid, but i liked to read so I read the tables while I ate...weird, I know. I remember though thinking to myself..."wow this stuff was legal back then..how strange".

I don't remember heroin or cocaine being - legal ever, especially just 30 years ago.

And then to advertise at Wendy's was pretty brazen and does not seem to be an image Wendy's would want. Again we used drive through so not sure of tables inside.

Need some advice from anyone taking or have taken medicine for high cholesterol.
