neck and arm

Posted: Sep 20, 2012

Hello, I am 52 years old, been an MT since 1999.  Just recently I have been having tingling and numbness in my neck with radiation down my left arm.  There is no chest pain.  Have any of you had similar symptoms?  I'm not one to take a lot of NSAIDS, but would if it helped.  Would yoga help this?  Do you stretch at your desk during the day?  I'm going to get a check-up with my PCP to rule out MS, but wanted to check with my peers to see if this is something that happens with the trade.

Thanks.

NECK AND ARM - what I do

My first go to is a chiropractor. Sitting all day, trying to hold our head up all day and I know you have perfect posture, but even that is not always true, everything gets messed up.

Just a simple adjustment as most of the problem comes from a pinched nerve in the neck and that would go down the arm, depending on which side the problem is on.

Hurt anywhere right below the skull on either side of the middle of the back of the head? If so, that is the culprit. Good luck.

Definitely agree - go to chiropractor (sm) - yochana

When I have these symptoms I know it's time to go to the chiro. I can also get hip pain that radiates to the knee.
Ask your chiro for some hamstring stretching exercises too. They really help.

It does sound like cervical neck issues. I had something similar months ago because I slept crooked and it took quite awhile to get better. I did heat and ice, and go on Youtube and watched videos of physical therapist doing stretching neck exercises which really helped me out. Check them out. I could not afford to go my doc or chiropractor as I lost my insurance around January.

Hi folks, thank you for all your suggestions. Sorry I am so late to respond, but you went to spam, LOL. I am doing neck exercises and yoga, I have adjusted my chair and bought reading/computer glasses. So far things are better.

Check with doc before any exercise-nm - Love Yoga!

Sometimes you can resolve neck pain by adjusting your monitor to the proper height. Make sure you are looking straight ahead, and not down or up. You might also correct this with adjusting the chair height.

I came here to post similar problems, have been having tingling from my shoulder down my right arm and now going up into my neck but no chest pain or other problems. I have not been transcribing much the last several months and my computer desk is higher than work desk and have noticed when I am playing games using the mouse a lot it is worse. Going to call my PCP tomorrow to try to get an appointment but I am interested in what you found out. Thanks!

Stiff Neck - SmJan 27, 2010
Have had a stiff neck for 3 days. Started on the right side, now on both sides. Hurts to turn in either direction. Tried heat, rubs, ibuprofen, but as soon as the ibuprofen starts to wear off it returns. Last night I sat up in a recliner and without moving my neck, my right neck up to my ear and down to my collar bone hurt. This morning it is just on both sides. I am going to take a few more ibuprofens, lay down, and then will check back here later. No fevers, no chills, no trauma, do not ...

NECK PROBLEMSApr 17, 2016
I have been doing MLS work for donkey's years.   I have always had a little "twitch" in my neck but recently it has gotten out of hand.   I cannot go to get my hair done or even to the dentist because when I sit down in the chair my head starts to twitch.  I cannot even take a drink without my head twitching resulting in me spilling the drink.   It is not constant but occurs often enough these days to alarm me.   I am thinking it may be from constantly staring at a ...

I Am So Frustrated With My Neck Pain! Any Suggestions?Oct 30, 2010
I have been dealing with my neck issues for 20 years.  I've been in to MVAs where I was rear-ended by someone traveling pretty fast and I had whiplash injuries both time.  Add the whiplash to what I do for a living and you have a recipe for a chronically painful, stiff neck.  I've now graduated into shooting pains up my neck to behind my left ear and of course those fun tension headaches from the back of my head up to the crown. I went to my doctor last week and got the ...

Neck And Cervical Strain IssuesMar 08, 2013
Would love any suggestions of how many of you have this problem.  I have tried neck exercises, shots and heating pad and ice to my right shoulder, try to watch my posture too.  My daughter also has this, but she does not sit at the computer like I do.  This is annoying and cannot get relief until I go to bed at night and it eases it somewhat, but then when working again I am plagued with it again.   I fear it is coming from a pinched nerve in my cervical neck but have no insu ...

Constant Tension Headache And Neck PainDec 30, 2013
Hello! I have had a terrible tension headache and neck pain/stiffness for the last few days, and I'm wondering how some of you had handled this situation. I am torn between doing gentle ROM exercises/stretching or just resting it as much as possible. I've tried massaging my neck/bottom of head/temple areas with no relief. I've also tried taking 800 mg of Advil with no help. Nothing I've tried is helping, so if anyone has any advice, I am in dire need! ...
